• Laptop is overheating to FUCK

Keep in mind, this is within one minute of opening the game. And I had a cooler pad on. If I play for about 3 minutes, it just shuts down. Probably due to the volcano forming on my heat sink. So yeah, I tried reapplying the thermal paste. Twice. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with my laptop's GPU. And yes, this is after a fresh install.
Laptop's have a tendency to do that when playing games they weren't meant too... [editline]27th November 2010[/editline] I'm surprised you can access the main menu.
crack that thing open and put some new thermal paste in it.

Try running one of those compressed air duster things through the vents? I mean even mine doesn't get that hot. Are your fans okay?
even funnier, it's running at 40 fps :v:
AT WHAT COST /caps
Your laptop learned to fuck because it overheated??? [editline]lol[/editline] But seriously, you may consider replacing the fan(or the entire heatsink assembly if necessary) with a compatible design, but yields a higher airflow at the cost of noise if you must.
Whatever you do, don't buy one of those "laptop cooling pads". Waste of $20... my girlfriend's laptop still overheats and shuts down when she plays Dragon Age.
Check to see if there is dirt and shit in the fans and heatsink. And I mean actually open it up. It usually gets caught inside.

I could play Fallout 3 on high for hours. Now I can't play Black Ops for a minute :saddowns:
Check if the fans are spinning properly, I still remember when eee_ctl basically put them to 0% and the temprature climbed to 70 degrees :allears:
Any way to control fan speed with a laptop? Also, I can over/underclock the GPU. But it doesn't help much.
Whatever you do, don't buy one of those "laptop cooling pads". They keep the vents off things like skin and fabric and tend to improve airflow.
Try replacing the fan, ebay should have the part.
Check to see if there is dirt and shit in the fans and heatsink. And I mean actually open it up. It usually gets caught inside.
Read the OP, he DID open it. Speaking of which, which thermal compound did you use?
Read the OP, he DID open it. Speaking of which, which thermal compound did you use?
and how much
Seriously, replace the fan(s).
I used some Chinese stuff that came in a syringe, but it was from work. (Computer repair shop, I'm sure it's good.) The first time I did a lot. Didn't help. Second time, I wiped it all off and did a little. Didn't help either.
The surface needs to be perfectly clean and the layer of thermal paste should be as thin and cover as much as possible Even though i dont think the thermal paste is the problem
It's really hard to put the thermal paste on, because the heat sink is on a swivel over the graphics card. I have to push the thermal thing under it, so I can't really see. But I'm pretty sure I put it on right. I don't have any more thermal paste though. Anybody want to buy me some? :saddowns:
but it was doing the same exact thing before you replaced the thermal paste, right? So that's probably not the problem.
I'm going out on a limb in asking this, but what driver version are you running?
I tried the latest driver, a slightly older one, and the manufacturer one. Same thing.
Your laptop is going through a stage that all animals do called Heat
Your laptop is going through a stage that all animals do called Heat
Laptop fuck oh man that's hot
I like the fact you're running black ops with an account that doesn't have the game.
I like the fact you're running black ops with an account that doesn't have the game.
Perhaps he has 2 accounts?
If he does, Then all is well, But if he doesn't...
If he does, Then all is well, But if he doesn't...
Why should anyone care if he pirates it? It's not your business, nor is it mine.
