Google just announced at Day 2 of Google I/O that Chrome for iPhone & iPad will come to the App Store later today for devices running iOS 4.3 or later. The app will feature many of the features present in other versions of the browser, including: Chrome sync, incognito mode, and its unique tab UI. Google also announced during the keynote that it would bring its recently launched Google Drive cloud service to iOS devices.
http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/28/google-announces-chrome-for-iphone-coming-to-app-store-today/ This is awesome and in a long time coming, the lack of Chrome on iOS was the biggest reason for not using Chrome as my primary browser in OSX. Google Drive has replace Dropbox as my primary cloud storage service as well, especially since additional storage is so damn cheap.
Aaand another place to store my files!
iPad version is so similar to the chrome I love on my desktop. and bam, all my bookmarks and shit are available on my device, good work Google.
Wonder when Apple will get pressured about anti competitiveness with the locked default browser...
Hopefully apple will allow you to set another browser as your default in iOS 6...
fantastic browser changer has already updated to chrome, works fantastically
Wonder when Apple will get pressured about anti competitiveness with the locked default browser...
It worked for them when Safari was hands-down the best mobile browser out there. But now that Android and Google are catching up fast it doesn't make sense for them to not allow you to change the default browser. But Apple allowing Chrome on the App Store at all gives me hope that they'll add this option in iOS 6 once is released.
Some people complained that Chrome is slower than Safari but I can't see any difference
Some people complained that Chrome is slower than Safari but I can't see any difference
For me (4th gen iPod Touch with latest iOS), it was a bit faster than Safari. Syncing is one of the reasons that made me say "yep, I'm ditching Safari for good" as well as the speed factor (in which I replied to a post about).
hi dog
I'd consider downloading this but my iPod Touch 2G won't upgrade beyond 4.2.1 so can't sadly. Opera Mini is good enough at least.
Hmm, chrome iOS doesn't know what to do with downloadable files that safari can handle
I noticed that, had to resort back to Safari for downloading a file
hmm chrome seems to not have a user agent spoofer. back to atomic web browser for the time being.

[editline]3rd July 2012[/editline]
Some people complained that Chrome is slower than Safari but I can't see any difference
It always stutters when using pinch to zoom on my iPad 2.
also, i recommend the browserchanger on rpetri.ch/repo it changes dialog sheets to say open in chrome
.
One thing that is bothering me is the fact that Chrome often reloads the page when I switch tabs. I only have 4 tabs open, so what's the point of this?
Perhaps one of the pages is taking up too much memory? Or maybe there's other things running in the background that are taking up memory. Such as Pandora or Airplay.
I'm not sure it's as practical as Safari, but it is super slick.
One thing that is bothering me is the fact that Chrome often reloads the page when I switch tabs. I only have 4 tabs open, so what's the point of this?
Safari will do this as well. As DamagePoint said, it's most likely something to do with memory management.
Why 4.3 or later? Is is necessary, or are they compiling it for the later architecture for no reason?

Is is necessary, or are they compiling it for the later architecture for no reason?
The 128MB iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2nd gen both are stuck on 4.2.1. It's probably to stop people with incapable devices from being able to download it.
What do you mean by incapable though? Does it use too much memory, or does it use resources unavailable on older versions of iOS? When Valve published their Steam Chat app, it said it was incompatible with anything under iOS 4.3 (I think) but I installed it easily onto my iPod Touch 2G (4.2.1) with iFunBox and it works fine. Are they just doing this for giggles, or is there a reason?
Since Chrome for iOS is basically a fancy Safari wrapper I'm betting they're doing it because of security or performance enhancements that are only available in that version of iOS or later. I'm probably wrong though.

I guess that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up!
