EDIT:
Square Enix PR has released a statement saying it is considered, not confirmed.
I guess they spoke too soon, and Nintendo wasn't happy.
Does nintendo really need a new console already
Does nintendo really need a new console already
as an owner of a wiiu, I LOVE my wiiu, but its pretty much an xbox 360 with a better GPU (literally that powerful, actually)
if it wasn't for wiimote and gamepad being as fun as it is I wouldn't have bought it.

Keep in mind the Nintendo DS was a "third pillar" alongside the GameCube and GBA when it got released.

Since the SNES, it's been every 5 years for a new console. If the NX truely comes out in 2016, it will have been 4.
I feel bad for splatoon, Its getting all these amazing updates but with the NX coming out next year, hopefully they will be able to push splatoon on this new...whatever it is.
Hoping that it plays Wii U games, if its a console, or 3ds game if its a handheld, or hell, that either way, it can play both
Guess I'll just wait to buy this NX rather than getting a Wii U.
It'll probably be able to play Wii U games, right? Nintendo's always been good about backwards compatibility.
Unless if it's supposed to be an entirely different thing from a regular console, like a fridge that also plays games.
Was thinking of getting a Wii U. Now I have to wait for this, damnit.

I wonder how powerful the "NX" will be in comparison. Not to mention what they're actually gonna call it?
Also, I think one of the reasons why we're surprised by Nintendo planning a new console already is because of that INSANE time gap between Gen7 and the current Gen8 consoles.
Also also, if it can play Wii U games it'll probably have a screen on the controller like before, albeit refined in design.
Looking around on other sites, the Nintendo NX is allegedly supposed to be Nintendo's take on a gaming tablet/smartphone.
Do we really need that?

If it is, I secretly want it to look like a Pokedex, or at least a hybrid between a smartphone and Pokedex. So long as it has proper controls and none of that virtual interface nonsense like with many emulation attempts on current smartphones.

They should just put backwards compatibility to all past Nintendo formats.

The tablet/smartphone thing was people going off baseless speculation we won't know what it is until nintendo reveals it
im pretty sure the NX is a handheld.
How does this article confirm anything about the NX coming out in 2016? Did you guys even read it? Chill out.
please no more gimmicks.........
hmmmm, i wonder why nintendo keeps releasing before sony and microsoft
i'm sure a lot more people would buy their consoles if they could play the blockbuster third party games

If you watch the presentation, it dates the game for a 2016 (for the 30th anniversary) release on 3DS, PS4, and NX.

No one wants to watch an hour long thing. Got a timestamp to confirm it?

59:48 is when they start talking about it. They state it is being released to mark the 30th anniversary of the series, which is 1986.
im pretty sure the NX is a handheld.
They just came out with the New3DS earlier this year / late last year (depending on region).
Then again, they put out handhelds at a much faster rate than consoles, and the New3DS isn't really that different outside of better specs (as far as I can tell).

I'm sick of people constantly hyping up phone app speculation for nintendo's next big move
They just came out with the New3DS earlier this year / late last year (depending on region).
to be fair the DS line needs to die out. The iterative upgrades are nice and essentially fill the 'backwards compatibility' complaint most people have over moving to a new device, but like someone else said, the DS has in some way or another been around since the gamecube. It's time to move up and find a new thing to focus on and do well with. I wouldn't mind a huge single-screen thing. Hell, I wouldn't mind if they just used a phone screen mounted to a control pad, more like a ps vita and all that, so long as it was treated as its own thing
The PS Vita was a brilliant example of how people basically don't want standard handheld consoles anymore. We pretty much all already have one in our pockets, and that's hugely brought down the market. One of the main reasons why Nintendo is still doing okay is the 3DS's continuing gigantic success. Handheld gaming, for the foreseeable future, will have to remain different from mobile games if they don't want to lose.

the problem with this view is, the vita should have done great, but it came out in the height of the "but my phone is so powerful why can't I just use that for games????" phenomena. Phone gaming is stagnant and consists of shittons of garbage you have to dredge through to get to something of interest. People are starting to largely recognize phone gaming is primarily pay2win scams or cute and interesting (but short-lived) puzzles and minigames and the DS sales are showing people are paying attention to the handheld market more and more
Having recognizeable and exclusive titles and IPs makes the difference, and it did for the vita a bit. I know a few people who bought it exclusively to get persona, but that's about it. Nothing else stood out and that's a problem
but imagine nintendo introduces a portable and durable phone-ish shaped device (probably with a gimmicky catch, knowing nintendo) with beautifully updated titles like pokemon, fire emblem, or the return of final fantasy tactics and advance wars
like god damn the opening weeks will outdo the vita's lifespan, and overall the device will be a success that they can continue to bank on
Looks like Square Enix has backtracked now from confirmed for the NX to "considered".
59:48 is when they start talking about it. They state it is being released to mark the 30th anniversary of the series, which is 1986.
I still see nothing about the NX.
I still see nothing about the NX.
It was mentioned, but isn't apart of the initial beginning of the announcement of the game, I believe it is said sometime when they are playing the game on the screen. They also said a port of Dragon Quest 10 is coming (now considered after the PR statement) for NX as well. They probably didn't want to do a mock-up logo in fear of upsetting Nintendo.
I hope the NX is actually the Gamecube 2
If you watch the presentation, it dates the game for a 2016 (for the 30th anniversary) release on 3DS, PS4, and NX.
It says the game will be on those platforms. And will drop in 2016. It will release for the platforms that are out and will probably be a launch title for nx.
