Most people living in Scotland describe their national identity as being "Scottish only", according to the latest census figures.
Data released from the 2011 census showed 62% described themselves as "Scottish only", while 18% said they were "Scottish and British".
The results also showed Scotland was becoming more ethnically diverse.
In 2011, 4% of Scotland's population was from ethnic minority groups, up from 2% in 2001.
Aye, rightly so.
I don't want independance because it's a horrible idea, but I still don't consider myself "British".
I consider myself British first, but I'm guessing it's more due to familial background and travelling around the country.
Having been over England and Scotland a fair bit, I'd say there is little difference between the two.
Fuck you too Scotland.
But they are British regardless...?
Is it me or is Scottish Culture just an Accent and Stereotypes.

I don't think the scots or welsh like to be called that

Technically they are. The British isles include Scotland and Wales.
It's named "Great Britain" because it's "Great" in relation to Brittany.

I say I'm English, because I'm from England.
British isn't something I'd like to be known as honestly. But it makes sense in a way since we live in Great Britain.
British is a geographic designation, not necessarily a nationality or ethnicity. The islands were called Britannia/Brettaniai by the romans, the name stuck and people who live on the islands are part of the geographical region of Britain, and can loosely be referred to as British regardless of where they are from.
Even the word "Scots" is probably derived from the Latin name "Scoti" so essentially whatever names the Romans gave are the ones that still remain.

I have never been to the UK, so I guess what I say comes with a grain of salt, but if I'm not mistaken, Scottish culture comes from a Gaelic/North Brythonic (if that is what the Picts were considered)/Norwegian background and English culture comes from an amalgamation of Norman, French, South Brythonic, and Saxon background.

It's definitely something more than that, there are British people outside of Britain. (In fact there's 200 million of us over the world in total if Wikipedia is to be believed).

not necessarily. nationality doesn't necessarily correspond with the political body you live under. scotland has a unique national identify that is separate from english and both of those identities are separate from having a british identity.
but if you consider british as being "someone who lives on the island of great britain", or "somebody who lives on a british isle", without taking into account any national identity, then scots, irish, and welsh are all british.
Britain as a collective can go and fuck itself, we don't care about each other in the slightest and we only ever work together when shit demand it like in both world wars.
I guess we're just tired of getting shitty governments we don't want and getting dragged into wars we don't need.

What about the act of Union and the high presence of Scottish people in English politics and administration (Scots made up a huge number of civil servants in the Indian civil service and worked in the army as well)?
Also Scottish regiments tending to be elite ones used in warfare, and Scotland/England/Wales being incredibly economically integrated and dependent on each other.

We'll happily take them back, feel free to have the army, and I don't advocate complete separation from England it's just real fucking tiring to have unnending English dangle berries proclaiming Scotland to be a great anchor that contributes dick all to the union and that we should be cast aside like a fucking louse.

My point was that Scottish Nation Identity is shallow and that they have far more in common with the rest of the Great Britain than their ancestors did from who their derive their notion of a nation identity.

What Propaganda are the SNP feeding you? Very few people in England think that.

Yeah we do, that doesn't mean we enjoy being berated by retarded English nationalists.

Most people in England hate English Nationalists just as much as you do.
Because minority of 1 city=entire country.

Obviously it's all my own opinion, and I've likely tripped over a squad of wild retards in Manchester but I know that with current information that splitting the union is a fucking waste of time right now.
Just real tired of all this shit, nationalism is a waste of time, I just want more powers for my country to decide what happens here.
Fuck the Scotch
You're off to a good start there

Tbh the Scots are just a slightly different flavour of English. There's some differences between the Welsh and English, but hardly any between the Scots and English tbh.

I dunno man, probably a big difference in vitamin D levels.

Have you ever visited rural parts of Scotland? The culture can vary by quite a lot
Well I guess the important question here is: has this any chance of being translated into any kind of political action or change?
Have you ever visited rural parts of Scotland? The culture can vary by quite a lot
Yes, except the rural areas hold tiny numbers of people. The vast bulk of people in Scotland live in areas that are full of English speaking people who have been speaking English since the Early middle ages.
The idea that Gaelic itself is a national language is as mad as claiming that Basque ought to be the national language of Spain.
Have you ever visited rural parts of Scotland? The culture can vary by quite a lot
The same can be said for rural areas anywhere though. I can drive an hour into the country where I live and end up in an episode of Duck Dynasty
The weird thing about that being I live in semi-urban Canada which is the some mostly liberal educated culture as the rest of the country while the rural areas are everything the stereotypes make them out to be
