A tiny computer with no GPU or proven capabilities for $1000 Sounds like a bargin!
A tiny computer with no GPU or proven capabilities for $1000 Sounds like a bargin!
But... but... Gabe!
Considering that PC games are cheaper and then there are the Steam deals and many other like the amazon deals it pretty much compensates the price. I mean, it can't be as cheap as the new consoles, since console developers make profit loss and get the profit from the much more expensive games.
Standard size is nowhere near enough to fit all my steam games, and I'm not paying 750 for half a tb
what niche is this trying to fill? Rich people that are too dumb to buy an actual computer, but are too smart to buy a Mac?
what niche is this trying to fill? Rich people that are too dumb to buy an actual computer, but are too smart to buy a Mac?
At least a mac serves more of a purpose than this, for somehow less money.
At least a mac serves more of a purpose than this, for somehow less money.
yeah, at least you can install more than a single .gif image on an iMac :V [editline]9th March 2013[/editline] i mean fuck, i know they're SSDs, but that hdd space is tiny
what niche is this trying to fill?
The upcoming Mini-PCs (like Valves Bigfoot) are supposed to be alternatives to the Desktop PC. Bigfoot for example tries to aim at people who have barely played games and never used Steam.
The upcoming Mini-PCs (like Valves Bigfoot) are supposed to be alternatives to the gaming PC.
from what we've seen is a more expensive alternative that doesn't really seem viable to anybody unless you bathe in cash and like buying useless shit
Well, that doesn't mean that all of them need to be like this. We know nothing about Valves Mini PC. And I changed my comment. Desktop PC fits better than Gaming-PC.
Standard size is nowhere near enough to fit all my steam games, and I'm not paying 750 for half a tb
To be fair though, those are internal SSDs, and they are expensive as fuck.
8GB of RAM and a 3.2GHz quad core... but for $900 I just don't think it's worth it. For one it's an AMD processor, and sure they have ok value for money (I have an AMD in my computer actually) but they get flogged by equivalent Intel processors. 3.2GHz is its turbo-boosted speed, its normal clock is at 2.3GHz (they have probably already tested for this, but potential overheating issues?). It has HD7660G graphics but I don't know how that holds up to things. [editline]10th March 2013[/editline] http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+7660G Performance comparison of the HD7660G with today's most common video cards.
I'll wait for the Gabe Cube, thank you.
Can't you just plug a normal external drive into it? I ran all of my games off a USB 2.0 My Passport for a long time with no issues.
To be fair though, those are internal SSDs, and they are expensive as fuck.
Fuck no. I bought a Crucial 256GB mSata SSD (which is maybe 3 or 4 inches across the diagonal) for my laptop for the same price as a SATA one. The prices they're asking are ridiculous.
I'll wait for the Gabe Cube, thank you.
It's not like it's going to be any different, I don't care how you do it, you can't make a computer that small powerful enough to play anything more than flash games.
Who actually looks at this and is like "Man I really want to spend all this money on this"
Jesus, I wasn't expecting it to cost this much. I don't know who they're targeting with this.
yeahno. Alienware has better computers at that price.
This isn't the Steambox.
what niche is this trying to fill? Rich people that are too dumb to buy an actual computer, but are too smart to buy a Mac?
I actually find this kinda stuff cool. I wouldn't mind bringing a computer around with me wherever i go that doesn't weigh like 10 pounds.
These pre-orders just looks like the company trying to build some capital
I actually find this kinda stuff cool. I wouldn't mind bringing a computer around with me wherever i go that doesn't weigh like 10 pounds.
that's why notebooks exist, and I dare say you can find some with better value for money than this piston. Fuck, my 15" Toshiba I got last year only cost $850 and that has Windows 7 Home Premium, a 2.2GHz quad core i7 sandy bridge, 400GB HDD, 8GB DDR3, a 1GB GT525M and USB3 connectivity. Sure that video card isn't the greatest but that is still quite a lot of computer for its price.
It's still better to just make your own computer to use for a TV, unless the price point and hardware can outmatch a custom build then it's simply not worth my time.
It's not like it's going to be any different, I don't care how you do it, you can't make a computer that small powerful enough to play anything more than flash games.
Those Intel chipsets really aren't that bad and can run 3D games well enough. And we don't even know what the Gabe Cube will look like so it might be bigger and pack a proper GPU.
and now the most self loathing PR Person ever showcases the piston menu
Calling it the 'Piston' when people only know about them as 'the people who were making Valve's Steambox maybe?' is devilishly clever
