Kojima also talks about how tutorials are difficult this time. In a linear game you would start the player in a small area and gradually expand what they can do, but you can't do that in open world stealth. Ideally the player can go wherever he wants and can discover things himself. As a sidenote, back in 2008... Metal Gear Solid 4 was played by the press on march 10, 2008. The game would release 59 days later on 6/12/2008. I don't think these playtestings are meant for the press (yet) though, so it might take a bit longer. But it does look like they're getting closer to the final build. Hopefully, a release date will follow soon. I'm still a believer in the June 22nd date since it was on his shirt.
I would be glad to see it release any time inside 2015. If it's delayed on PC I'll buy it on X360 first because no fucking way I'm getting the story spoiled.

I'd buy the game twice.
Just try it. I'll buy that shit so fast, they won't even know what hit em.
Please be kind to the PC version Let it release the same time as the consoles PLEASE KOJIMS
Please be kind to the PC version Let it release the same time as the consoles PLEASE KOJIMS
Pretty sure that's the case but I won't be too upset if it isn't for Quality purposes.
I always loved Metal Gear as a kid, and grew up with it from my brother, but it wasn't until I got older and played through all of them myself that I fell in love with the series. I am ridiculously excited for this game. Just as a game by itself it is going to be amazing. For a Metal Gear fan though, this is going to be fucking fantastic. That said, I'll be waiting eagerly for this.
I have had this little feeling that they'll surprise us with a date sooner than we're expecting.
I cannot fucking wait. This is pretty much the only AAA game I actually give a shit about that's coming out in the foreseeable future.
They did tease a phrase like "May 2015 be happy" on their twitter
https://twitter.com/kojima_pro_live/status/550377517215776770 I didn't see this. I could easily see them doing a "final trailer" at GDC where they formally announced the game 3 years ago with a release date in 2-3 months from then.
Can't wait for modders to replace Snake with tortured Kaz. It would be weird to see him wobble around without a leg.
This game is going to be soooo good
A game to surpass Metal Gear... solid 3 snake eater
A game to surpass Metal Gear... solid 3 snake eater
Unlikely. Unless you can throw snakes a people, there's no comparison.
Unlikely. Unless you can throw snakes a people, there's no comparison.
MGS3 was surpassed by MGS4 in sheer gameplay imo.
MGS3 was surpassed by MGS4 in sheer gameplay imo.
What gameplay?
What gameplay?
what gameplay?? mgs3 has like the best gameplay ive ever seen tbh. so incredibly deep and full of great secrets and easter eggs, and the dozens of ways to approach literally every situation you're in makes for really fantastic replayability and opportunity to mess around and have fun and tackle things in different ways.
I think he meant 4, which was mostly cutscenes
Nice I hope it lines up with my tax refund, I need an upgraded PC anyways
Everything has kept hinting at 'Early 2015', especially with the whole GZ and TPP DLC page, so I don't see why this is much of a stretch or surprise for some.
MGS3 was surpassed by MGS4 in sheer gameplay imo.
MGS4 had probably the worst gameplay out of all of the core games.
MGS3 was surpassed by MGS4 in sheer gameplay imo.
It is better gameplay wise. But the short gameplay segments, and insane cutscene length ruin it. MGS3 gave you so many more times to really make use of all the gameplay, even the funnier shit. MGS4 doesnt give you enough time to really play around. MGS4 just becomes a much better game when you skip every cutscene and just do the gameplay.
When I bought Ground Zeroes for 10 bucks, I never expected to get either of these. Now, after seeing how beautiful the game runs, looks, and plays? I'm super hyped for this announcement of the release. I would not be surprised if it came in May, considering it's still being heavily worked on, but no matter what Q1/2 2015 seems most likely.

The second one ends with a scripted escape sequence, the third involves tailing a rebel, another scripted chase sequence, and a not-very-good boss fight. Chapter four was alright, and the boss fight was arguably great, but the enemies aren't everyone's favorites. And chapter five is one small area to sneak through, another gimmicky boss fight, and then the microwave hall and the best boss fight ever. It's all over the damn place.
MGS3 was surpassed by MGS4 in sheer gameplay imo.
yeah but you can't throw snakes at people
yeah but you can't throw snakes at people
why do you want to throw snakes at people when you can CROTCH GRAB everyone until they fall unconscious
4 almost had the best gameplay but the level design (in terms of sneaking and amount of options you had in terms of paths) is some of the worst in the series, not to mention a 1 hour cutscene interrupting every 30 minutes of gameplay
It has elements of sandbox gameplay but without an actual sandbox. There's so much potential to mess around and get creative, but the level design is really restrictive in terms of what you can actually do.
I hope they don't have to cut anything out because of stupids in their playtesting sessions.
Given how much attention Phantom Pain has received and how it has been toured around every major public/industry expo, I don't think they can change the design too much. Since TPP is just GZ with a lot more to work with, I think they'll be alright. If they just released Phantom Pain without allowing veterans of the series to slowly transition to the new design, I'd think they're in trouble.
