Hi, H&S
I don't come in here often, but recently, I started playing Crysis again, and I have to say, I'm dissapointed with my average FPS in game. I thought I'd be able to handle mostly "High" with a couple scattered "Medium"s, but I actually had to lower it to mostly medium and some low to get a consistant 45-50~ish fps.
I'm running Windows 7, have 6GB Ram, plenty of free space on my HDD (about 400GB free out of a total 650GB), a GeForce GT 240, and a Core Two Quad @ 2.5GHZ.
Now I dunno if I'm right in thinking this, but I assumed with that, I should be able to handle Crysis decently well, but it looks like I was wrong.
I've done a couple things so far: I've increased the size of my paging file, as well as turned off some of the unnecessary windows 7 visual effects. I haven't tried overclock CPU yet, but I don't think my BIOS supports overclocking, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do there.
Any help or tips on what I could do to optimize my computer would be appreciated. Thanks.
You could probably do with a new graphics card
At what resolution were you playing the game?
Also I doubt whether you can reach high on crysis with a gt240, but medium should do.
You think so? What would be a good choice for one?
Edit: Oh, and I have it running windowed at 1440 x 900, mainly because of performance. I'd like to run it at 1680 x 1050, but that obviously doesn't help my fps.

Windowed-Crysis buddies!
Just buy new hardware. Easiest way to optimize.

every small bit counts

There's the problem
It sucks

Don't. You have 6GB of memory.

They turn off automatically during fullscreen applications.

Your CPU is fine.

Lose the GT 240.
Replace the GT 240 with something like a second hand GTX 280 (cheap on eBay) or a 5770.
1: run fullscreen
2: Get a better card. (preferably an ati one since they are really cost effective atm.)
Replace the GT 240 with a 5770.
