• Thinking of upgrading my computer

Hey Facepunch, I got a massive computer upgrade about three years ago and only now is it starting to lag with some of the newer games. I'd like to have a relatively cheap upgrade, I'm not too intrested in a NASA Super computer that can run Crysis on full flawlessly. Specs: System Model: XFX Nforce 680i LT Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.2GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Page File: 1863MB used, 2229MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT I think that's everything you need. I've been told that all I need is a CPU and RAM uprade.
Another 2 sticks of ram would be nice. Yeah, CPU and GPU upgrade would help lots.
GPU? I've never really looked into this and just got someone else to build my computer.
What's your budget?
I'm thinking very low, as in £200 max + money from selling old graphics card.
Your GPU is fine. A 9600Gt will be fine for a couple of years. And plus, what is your OS? I presume W7 but is it 32bit or 64bit. If it is 32bit you will need to get 64bit for the 2gb of extra RAM for your OS to utilise the RAM to its full.
You could fit a 4850 and a extra 2GB RAM in there. And as asked before; 32- or 64-bit OS?
It's 64-bit W7. So more or less what I had in mind RAM and CPU?
I'd say a new graphics card is more important than a CPU, but definitely get more RAM
New GPU most defiently. Not all games takes advantage of 4 cores, and the C2Q is too expensive in $/performance anyway.
GPU = Graphics card? I don't want to get one that'll mean I have to get a new motherboard or even a whole new case.
GPU = Graphics card? I don't want to get one that'll mean I have to get a new motherboard or even a whole new case.
Yes, a GPU is a graphics card. Also you won't need a new motherboard to get one
So if I am to get this new card suggested by Rixxz2, how much do you think I can sell my old one for?
Not much most likely.
Ah, yeah, I see your point.
Also don't get 4 more gigs of RAM like he suggested
Why does everyone choose DX10 cards.... DX11 is all the rage.
Also don't get 4 more gigs of RAM like he suggested
I was thinking about him replacing the RAM with the two sticks I provided, not adding them onto the amount of RAM he currently has.
