Hello everyone,
Two years ago we revealed that we were making a new Mirror’s Edge™. Last year, we gave you a behind the scenes look into some of the early progress we had made. And though we haven't said much else in all that time, we have been listening. Thank you for your incredible passion and your patience. I'm excited to tell you that it's paid off — by this time next week, you will have finally seen more of the game at E3.
Mirror’s Edge has always had a special place in the hearts of all of us at DICE. The first game had a lot of promise. It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul. But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation.
The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror's Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.
So on behalf on the entire team here at DICE, we can’t wait to show you what we have been pouring our heart and soul into. We can’t wait to introduce you to Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst.
looking forward to being disappointed.
I hope I can get some Red Octobers to replace her shoes
Mirror's Edge 2 needs to actually do something to try and progress parkour as a mechanic in games in order to be anything more than just a pretty game. The only game since Mirror's Edge that seemed to do anything with trying to make parkour a fun and intuitive mechanic was Dying Light and that came out this year. In my opinion, Mirror's Edge isn't really all that great outside of it's aesthetic and I'm wondering if people will care at all about a sequel if it's just the same.

why does he look like the main villain in a deus ex game?
trying to make parkour a fun and intuitive mechanic was Dying Light and that came out this year.
Titanfall had also one of the best implemented control/parkour mechanics I've seen in a game.

I hope he gets like a cape or something this year, to complete that super villain aesthetic he's going for.

Judging by last year, they seem to understand the parkour part well at least. The big difference is a seeming emphasis on improving the melee combat, and let's be honest - the most you can do in improving the parkour is A.) making it all flow better and B.) add new interactions and capabilities that are context-sensitive that weren't in the first game already, because one can only do so much with a keyboard and mouse or a controller in terms of movements and mobility.

I'm not sure if adding more methods of climbing and running is really the best way, but just making sure that every input feels right and your ability as a runner is conveyed logically. ME was already pretty good at that, but it's dangerous to just keep adding new moves upon new moves.

Oh yeah, true. I don't think you could take the speed from Titan Fall or really the ability of those pilots and put it into the Mirror's Edge universe though.

What relevancy to the topic does this post have, and what made you think posting it would be a good idea in the first place?
It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul.
Yeah and they've gone and smothered it in sci-fi. I mean gameplay might be good, but this is ruining the whole vibe the first game had. It wasn't meant to be futuristic, it was just modern and clean. And for me, that made it original. It was like as if that level of oppressive surveillance could happen in any major city in the world. They didn't even name the city you're in, which reinforced that notion.

That's literally all you could ask for in a ME2 sequel. I'd settle for a short campaign with solid controls and just some extra levels. It doesn't need to triple the size of Mirror's Edge to be good.

Plus, Mirror's Edge's story is really nothing special so I don't know who cared about the campaign as anything other than scenes to run through.
What happened to her face?
She looked way better in the first game

A wristband and an arm muscle

idfk, maybe a wrist-mounted knife sheath or something? A cell-phone pocket? Literally a fancy wristband, like the other guy said? It's not a robotic arm, and it's not a Pip-Boy. I doubt it's anything of real significance.
I can't wait to see how the combat has been improved!
So it sounds like they're making a Reboot.

her face looks the same, i think it's the hair that makes it look so different

Rebooting that series of... one game? Under a unique name?
Here's to hoping they focus on the right aspects of the game to expand upon. World-building, parkour fluidity and a better story. NOT shooting mechanics, awkward offensive close combat or "cinematic" scripted set pieces.
why does he look like the main villain in a deus ex game?
He looks like the devil himself.
