This restoration would not be possible if it weren't for my dad. he gets a big fat thank you! A lot of you already know about my little project but I figured now that we have an auto forum, I should make a log about my progress. I'm also hoping that I'll get more work done from the fear of being a jackass and not updating this thread enough. this is the garage in which i do all my work, also you can see the camaro before i really started on the restoration. Chapter 1: dicking around First off, a picture from way back before I started. (not me, jealous neighbor kid. jk hes cool) now we fast forward, I'm a senior in high school, couldn't think of a topic for my senior project. After a week or so of talking the shit out of my dad to let me restore the camaro, he accepts and I start planning. At first I was just going to half-ass it with the bare essentials (brakes, make it run, necessary things) and get it registered and insured and be done with it. but then, a few weeks later, my dad forwards me an email. this email was the order confirmation from Ricks Camaro's. I shat myself right then and there, my dad had ordered over $12,500 worth of parts. new body panels, disk brake conversion, new floors, all the good shit. A week or two later, an 18 wheeler pulled up and parked on my street, creating a ruckus with the neighbors. after about 30 minutes he finished unloading everything into my driveway. Chapter 2: the restoration begins I can't find the pictures from this time but i'll just post what I had done.

got it on the lift
stripped (most of) the paint off
took off the front clip (fenders, grill, front wheel wells, radiator, etc)
general disassembly, exhaust, driveshaft, rear end, all the interior, electricals, trunk lid, hood, all the chrome,
disconnected the subframe from the body of the car (the engine came with it) [img_thumb]http://gyazo.com/00e53f93fe181a8731172fa709376ba9.png[/img_thumb] Look at the picture, it's actually pretty cool!
started cutting out bad metal
started replacing metal
and this is where my pictorial records go back to! so here come some pictures! I'll just copy and paste the log thing i put in the WIP welding thread in general discussion: this was my first patch ever (Drivers side inner rocker panel, toward the front): ^that thingy is a plasma cutter, it's kinda fun and i love using it. also note the warning near the tip :v: here, the toe board and most of the inner rocker panel on the passenger side are all new metal: the welds in the middle of the toe board were done with a "spot welder" or something, it has two long copper arms that pinches the metal and you press a button and it makes a weld (it's some shitty chinese one, it doesn't work on metal that isn't paper thing). here's some up close pictures of the welds on the toe board, I think my dad did these but i honestly can't remember. this was before we ground them down. heres the front of the toe board: sloppy, but EH here, you can see the car as a whole (as of a month or so ago): you can also see the welder and plasma cutter on the cart (that we made). there is also a patch on the door that we'll probably have to re-do (dad's first time welding) heres the new floor: welded in everywhere but the back of it, since we still have to put in a new trunk floor. this is shot from inside the trunk, towards the drivers side wheel well: ok i guess this is the same, but more toward the front: still ok i guess this is the other wheel well: the seam between the two pieces of metal was somewhere in between the red lines, i think this is my best weld so far. The next day though, my dad decided that one part wasn't ground down enough, so he tried to grind it some more. he ended up making the thinnest metal i've ever seen. I tried to put some copper behind it and throw weld at it, but it was no use. (it's okay though i'll just cut that bit out and patch it later (:) heres the outer rocker panel on the drivers side: weld is at the top part of the black metal, dad did this one. heres the poopy weld on the passenger door i mentioned earlier: neither me nor my dad are professionals hahaha this thread is not done yet do not consider this the final layout whatever i withhold the right to change whatever i want whenever i want etc eventually i'll make a post showcasing all the tools I have to use, and give this OP a nice layout and whatever GIVE ME TIPS FOR A GOOD THREAD so yeah from now on i'll do daily entries or something seeing as i'm pretty much in the garage working on this car every day.
Looks like it's coming along pretty good. I can't really give much advice, but from doing some restoration on my '79 K20, I can't stress enough to take time with rust prevention. My dad and I got low on funds and couldn't afford enough rust converter and other things, so now a year after the new paint job, there is already rust coming back through that I will have to fix this spring.

u shouyld put a vtech in it!
Ditch the wimpy 350 and buy something like a 750cui hemi or something.
Wimpy? Pfft. If you want some real power, get a 427. Its an animal.
Any updates?
mom went to visit my cousins with the camera and i've been busy, sorry. test fitted the trunk floor and drilled some holes for welding earlier. i've spent the majority of this week writing the paper for this project as it's dude tomorrow.
made a bunch of progress today. rear frame rails and trunk floor are fitted and tight and shit. i'll take pictures tomorrow after i start welding.
Wimpy? Pfft. If you want some real power, get a 427. Its an animal.
Pffft, power? Get this bitch http://www.schubeckracing.com/ And yes I own the 1968 Coronet hell strike. It has a 547cui Keith black engine which is ok I guess. The rack and pinion for the steering is coming in this week, only problem is our garage is full so we can't fully get to working on the car yet, that and work has been really busy.
trunk floor is fully welded in as of today. ^welds attaching the trunk floor and the passenger area floor thing ^welds attaching the trunk floor and drivers side frame rail we bought a new quarter panel to replace this, and then that's the last of the body work and we move on to painting everything.
Trunk-work is looking good. Honestly cannot wait to see this baby primered and painted up, not to mention complete. Kudos to you Hellstrike and your dad for restoring a classic.
shitty cell phone pic sorry about that
sandblasted and painted the heater box thingy also the hood mounts once i grind these down better and make it pretty, that's the last of the body work! new transmission mount thingy because the old one was cracked or ripped or something and was held together with pipe clamps
theres the before picture for the hood, i was about to sand it down, but i didn't finish because i started vomiting all over the place so i went inside and fell asleep.
