Sure, it's just a TV show, but what exactly is so special about it? Unlike most other sitcoms with a formula of canned jokes and a forced laughtrack, Arrested Development is less about delivering funny one-liners. Instead, it relies a lot more on wit and complex humor and jokes to drive across a laugh. It's not a show where you laugh at all the jokes right off, until you realize what they were trying to mean, and the show becomes incredibly more brilliant and clever...not to mention hysterically funny. The Cast: Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) Michael Bluth is the main character of the series. He was given his father's home-building company after he was arrested for a variety of crimes, and his goal is to solve the problems with not only the company, but his incredibly crazy family. He is also a widower, and he has one son, George-Michael, whom he is a very overbearing father to. While Michael always tries to be the "good guy" and help his family out, he also seeks romance and personal desires from time to time. He's also a smartass when he needs to be. George-Michael Bluth (Michael Cera) George-Michael is a young teenager, and his father is Michael Bluth. He's a textbook example of a goody-goody...gets good grades, never does the wrong thing, he's even the manager of the Bluth Banana Stand. But after a botched ploy to get attention from his parents, he has to struggle with being attracted to his best friend and cousin Maeby. Throughout the series, George-Michael hopes to prove his love to Maeby, but realizes that it would be forbidden. Lindsay Funke (Portia de Rossi) Lindsay Funke is Michael's twin sister,[sp]who really is three years older and adopted.[/sp] Despite being one of the more dependable and intelligent members of the Bluth family, Lindsay is materialistic, lazy, and flirty with other men despite being married. She also holds big charity wine-and-cheese events, despite the fact that she doesn't support any of the charities and does it more for her ego. She also has marital issues with her husband, Tobias, and is very neglectful towards her daughter, Maeby. Tobias Funke (David Cross) Tobias is Lindsay's husband, whom she originally married to piss off her parents in an act of youthful rebellion. Despite having several medical degrees in psychiatry and psychology, Tobias' real dream is to become a famous actor...which he fails at, consistently. Tobias also phrases things oddly when he talks, making practically everyone question his sexuality, and has a psychological disorder defined as "never-nude," which never allows him to fully be naked at any time. Because of this, he showers in denim cut-offs. He also has marital problems with his wife, Lindsay. Maeby Funke (Alia Shawkat) Maeby is the daughter of Lindsay and Tobias Funke, who are both extremely neglectful towards her. Despite being very intelligent, she does poorly in school and comes up with rebellious plans to get her parents' attentions.[sp]That is, until she cons her way into getting a job as a film executive.[/sp] She seeks moral support in her best friend and cousin, George-Michael. She is also unaware that George-Michael is attracted to her. George Oscar "Gob" Bluth (Will Arnett) Gob (pronounced "jobe") is the eldest child in the Bluth family. He is a magician for a living, but doesn't do very well and insists that he doesn't perform tricks, he performs "illusions." Gob is also arrogant, irresponsible, and womanizing. Despite these shortcomings, he is able to use his charm and magic to his advantage in many ways. He also tries many times to be a part of the Bluth business, but fails miserably every time. Byron "Buster" Bluth (Tony Hale) Buster is the youngest child of the Bluth family, and rightfully so. He still lives with his mother in her penthouse apartment, and he practically worships her...despite her constant beratings and abuse. Buster also acts and is treated like a child, and can never seem to relate to any of his siblings. And if that weren't enough,[sp]he gets his hand bitten off by a seal in the second season.[/sp] Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter) Lucille is the matriarch of the Bluth family, and the mother of Michael, Lindsay, Gob, and Buster. She looks down on all of her children except Buster, and she drinks vodka like it's water. She also lies habitually in order to siphon more money from the company to her personal funds, and is manipulative in order to stay in power...all played for laughs, of course. George Bluth, Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) George Sr. is the patriarch of the family, and the father of Michael, Lindsay, Gob, and Buster.[sp]Actually, just kidding about Buster.[/sp] He is the former owner of the Bluth home-building company, who has been arrested for a large variety of crimes and fraud,[sp]the biggest one being building houses in Iraq to house weapons of mass destruction.[/sp] The entire movie consists of the Bluth family trying to bail him out of jail despite a shitload of evidence against him. He is also lewd, and doesn't really care about his family at all. Why should I watch this series? Why shouldn't you? This series is fucking comedy gold. My personal favorite TV series of all time. If the fact that it's an American sitcom repels you, watch it anyways. It's an entirely different formula from a sitcom like The Office or That '70s Show, and it's one of the most clever, intelligent shows of all time. The The entire series is also on Netflix Instant Streaming. The most depressing thing in my life was finishing the last episode, knowing that I will never again see a new episode of this. Just hope they make a film.

Funniest show of all time

Easily my favourite comedy show of all time.
This has become a personal meme at band camp.
Holy fuck, we do that before choir concerts.
One of the very dew shows I've been able to watch every episode of. The only show that made me love every actor in it. Anytime I see one of them in something new I think, this is gonna be good.
Is the movie coming or not?
Is the movie coming or not?
It has been confirmed that they are working on the movie. It keeps getting delayed and from what I've heard they are still working on the script.

Steve Holt!
Best show ever.

I think the thing I miss the most about this show is the music that plays when Michael and Gob are fighting
Never noticed that. Examples?
Never noticed that. Examples?
When they're fighting over one of Michael's girlfriends, it's this Latino-type music. I can't find it on YouTube for some reason.
I want the movie!
not sure why, but this has always been one of my favourite moments
It took me a few years to realize just how genius and fantastic this show is. The last episode left me feeling empty because it was so awesome, that knowing nothing would follow is just the greatest disappointment.
There's always money in the banana stand.
So many subtle jokes and self references to pick up on even after watching the entirety of the show several times.
I've been watching this series from the beginning on Netflix, so far I'm at the 4th episode of the second season. So far it's pretty much the best show ever
This show does not have a bad episode. It's impossible to decide on a best episode because they're all the best (except for the first but that's okay because it's just to set up the show)

But even then there are some great scenes
It has been confirmed that they are working on the movie. From what I recall, he said the studio wouldn't pay the creator of the show the amount he wanted, and production won't progress until that gets sorted out.
Probably my favourite show ever.
