I guess Im out of the loop or something, why is this happening?
A black man was choked to death and the cop's not being charged for it.

I will never understand how people think that blocking traffic accomplishes anything. The people they are protesting against are not going to care about a bunch of people standing in a road somewhere, and the people they are inconvenciencing are people completely unrelated to the issues they are protesting against. What kind of systematic change, the kind of change that they claim to want, could they possibly hope to effect by doing stuff like this?

Blocking traffic makes a point through the inconvenience. But it's still an inconvenience. I'm torn.
I will never understand how people think that blocking traffic accomplishes anything
it lets you put on a sick drag race that leads to the death of a young man
post vids from google glass
But then the bad guy cops will take it from him again!!!
Oh look. They are actually protesting something that is definitively bullshit and without a doubt a case of corruption. Hopefully this group of protesters won't burn down NYC.
post vids from google glass
drive down in your srt dodge challenger and give it some sweet street racing

That has to be so fucking cold. Use the rage to warm you, NYCers.
I kind of agree, but at the same time, why protest where no one is going to see you?
It has the same effect as those commercials that are twice as loud as the show you had on. It gets your attention, but only makes you angry and drives you away.
Also, nice to be alive to watch a major part of history in the making. Shitty that we still have to go through race/police corruption riots in 2014, but pretty cool nonetheless. MY AUTOMERGE!
drive down in your srt dodge challenger and give it some sweet street racing
it wouldn't be a real protest without Yonker's most relevant anarchist bravely leading the pack.
A black man was choked to death and the cop's not being charged for it.
Choked to death using a hold banned by the police, while the man ( Eric Garner ) was recorded saying that he couldn't breath eleven times on video, and the officer didn't stop until he was dead. Literally homicide that no one is being held accountable for. It's insanity.

What kind of systematic change, the kind of change that they claim to want, could they possibly hope to effect by doing stuff like this?
I tend to do my protesting of diverse and terrifying social issues alone, and in a quiet room so as not to disturb other people with my wild ideas about equality among races and the idea that cops shouldn't be allowed to choke people to death. It's really initiated a lot of change.
Hey, my uncle is there!
Uh Ok tell me, what a citizen should do, to get their voice heard besides mass protesting?
You can have a mass protest without blocking a tunnel and inconveniencing other people. Protests that do things to inconvenience normal every-day people (like blocking major highways/interstates/tunnels) honestly just look like a bunch of kids throwing a temper tantrum than adults protesting an injustice. You want to welcome people into the protest and get them angry at what you're angry at, not piss them off and have them angry at you instead....
if you inconvience people, they are more likely to know why you are protesting if you just sit on a street corner and hold up signs people probably won't be bothered to read them
if you inconvience people, they are more likely to know why you are protesting if you just sit on a street corner and hold up signs people probably won't be bothered to read them
I don't disagree with that point. I'm simply saying that it's counterproductive to piss off the people you want on your side.....
if you inconvience people, they are more likely to know why you are protesting
Know =/= support though They're willingly stopping people from getting to work/family. That's...great, I guess? You eventually have to piss people off in order to get your voice heard.
I think you made the trust-fund anarchist mad
Please leave him alone and stop derailing, he's just the OP. Actually on-topic this is great to see, wonder if any news networks are covering it yet.
Knowing doesn't mean shit if you've pissed them off. They know exactly what you're protesting about, they don't CARE because you're keeping them from getting to where they need to go.
I concede this point, but they need to make people mad to get the higher-ups to notice them; the people they want to notice them. Government will realize a civil disturbance is happening and they will HAVE to do something about it, as opposed to non-intrusive protests.
