To make sure I didn't miss something.
Anyways a friend asked me to help him with a build and this is what I came up with, just trying to make sure I didn't make any stupid mistakes or anything.
(He gave me a budget of $1600, and wanted to spend most of it, hence the 2 HDD, SSD, sabertooth, and I7 instead of I5 that seem excessive)

He already has covered:
Graphics Card (GPU): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130787
Monitors
Mouse/Keyboard
Headphones/mic
Operating System
edit: Just realized It'd be best to get low profile RAM otherwise the hyper212 might block out the dual-channel spots.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/AptB With low profile ram.
don't get a velociraptor, it's a colossal waste of money with minimal performance gain over 7200rpm drives.
Good PSU choice, case is pretty meh for the budget, drop the vraptor drive and throw in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119264 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139009 (the Corsair is nicer in that price range).
low end sound cards are mostly a waste, if he doesn't need one (doesn't have an atleast decent pair of headphones or only uses headsets) then leave it out, you can get external solutions that work far better.
Sabertooth looks gross imo, the MSI MPOWER is better for the price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130660 as well as the Gigabyte z77x-ud5h http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128549.
Low Profile Vengeance RAM will be easier to work with when installing the heatsink http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233280
speaking of the heatsink, throw an NZXT Havik 140 on that shit instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835146011&Tpk=havik%20140 and if you can't find it in stock KAPOW we got ya covered http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709020 or for that dual tower goodness http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709011 (spoiler alert, this + white Corsair 500R will have the bitches flocking to your friends D)
get a bigger SSD if there's still money left out of the $1600

OH YA GOT ME WITH THE LP RAM EDIT I see how it's going to be
Ha, also thanks, I'll update the list and send it to him.
Edit: Carbide looks awesome,
Lol let's put in a crucial for shits n' giggles next to the samsung (essentially same price as the velociraptor and he reminded me that he had a 1TB external for specificly Steam anyways). Just so he can put his performance demanding games in there and watch them load, or more specificly, NOT watch them load.
I'm going to assume there are mounts for 140mm fans on top in the 500R and if so then 140mm heatsinks should fit fine, but since Newegg doesn't know how to list information that is PERTINENT TO THIS SITUATION then I can't be 100% on that.

that IS one big ass heatsink.
and apparently people were getting a lot of confusion while installing it.
M4 is a little slow by newer SSD standards, and recent firmware changes would make the drive unstable for some people.Kingston HyperX 3K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239046 would be better or Corsair Force GT which is a little more expensive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233208.
[editline]30th January 2013[/editline]
I've got a friend with the 3K, it's a nice drive. My brother has a Corsair Neutron but a different version with a new controller is the only one on there and I don't know how reliable it is so I'd put the Force GT over it for now.
[editline]30th January 2013[/editline]
you could go with the Noctua NH-D14, it's pretty much the same cooler except it straight up looks like a hamburger.
Alright, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ApR9
Also, considering going with another CPU cooler, apparently the phan-tek can be a bit confusing to install and something you don't want to fuck up is installing your CPU or it's heatsink.
edit:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ApTC (noctua cooler)
The Havik 140 performs pretty damn close to the Noctua NH-D14 for only being a single tower and doesn't look so weird if the looks would bother you or your friend.
The looks don't make so much of a difference as the 1/4 decrease in price, will switch.
edit:
Except it's out of stock, the NH-D14's fine though.
this is fun, find more friends to build computers with
I actually get requests from people to help them pick parts for a build every once in a while, and while I generally do refer them to here if they want to double-check my picks, I've usually just copied someone else's selection on the forum anyways and double-checked it and or swapped out parts to fit their needs or budget. It was actually pretty nice to work with such a large budget for once.
