How Ghost Games keep fucking up NFS is beyond me. The series nosedived when they took over after Most Wanted 2012 and they still haven't figured out how to make a fun game. RIP Criterion
What a shame, I was looking forward to this game too Edit: (clarification) I was hoping that at some point in the future a good nfs installment would come out, but apparently thats a pipedream.

Everything points to ghost really wanting to make a good game, but they are obviously rushed forth and forced to implement stuff and rush out their games by EA. Like, nfs 2015 was set to get neons just before EA forced them to stop making aditional content. Woking under EA has to be the most soul crushing thing if you're not DICE.
That was a depressing read. I had hoped they learned from their mistakes in the '15 reboot and made a good successor to the classic games (UG, MW, etc), but apparently not. There goes my purchase.
Still have Hot Pursuit and High Stakes installed on my machine, still given me more replay value than any of the NFS since. Shame this got fucked up out the door, but at this point I'm not surprised anymore.
Hoped for a modern NFS underground comeback, get this instead. Thanks Electronic Farts.
R.I.P. Ghost Games. Wonder who'll get the series next.
Need for Greed: Paycheck failing is something that I'm shocked more people didn't see coming, history continues to repeat itself, while consumers resume burying their heads in the sand.
It's really upsetting since their intentions seemed to be good for the past 2 games. They made a huge focus on customization for '15 (something I was missing for a long time, MW is my favorite NFS), and for Payback they took that ground they made and made it into a more fully-fleshed game. But the game needs to be good functionally for it to be successful, and apparently they love making cringy narratives

Got the former after asking my grandparents if I could take it home with me. Clearly, EA has no understanding that they're only hurting themselves and the devs over and over again. The two Golden Poo awards they gained are a sign of their idiocy and greed.

And it all goes downhill from there with the exception of the original Most Wanted. If you ever wanna play NFS III on a modern PC this is very helpful: http://veg.by/en/projects/nfs3/

Connector roads being promised to be opened, race modes like Speedtrap or Canyon Duels returning (they even exist in the text dump!), and none of these ever came to be. Being locked out from using S-tiered cars also severely limits Free-2-Players unless they spend money on it.
Most Wanted was definitely my favorite game of the series. Then it started to die.
Most Wanted was definitely my favorite game of the series. Then it started to die.
But what about Carbon Or do you mean 2012 because they did that dumb reboot thing
But what about Carbon Or do you mean 2012 because they did that dumb reboot thing
2012
2012
MW 2012 was your favourite?? How???
MW2012 was pretty much Burnout Paradise 2, and in a way it was much closer to the original NFS games due to the whole racing-with-no-tuning focus It shouldn't have been called "Most Wanted" but here we are

I guess if you were looking for the classic NFS experience, it wasn't too bad.
Most Wanted 2005 was a fucking masterpiece. Most Wanted 2012 was awful and had no content.
in good news there is a map editor releasing ~soon~ for the blackbox nfs games.
in good news there is a map editor releasing ~soon~ for the blackbox nfs games.
Better prepare to download it before they C&D it to try and get you to buy this instead

Payback is still a step up from NFS2015's driving model. But it seems they want to move towards the players with steering wheels since cruising on the highway is a much smoother experience. Making sudden turns still sucks hardcore tho. There's no way you're able to react and turn as much. Atleast if you're using the full 900 or 1080 degrees. The customization is really cool, but what I hate is that the cars you buy are stuck to the class in which dealer you buy them at. NFS2015 let you buy a car and it's in your own mental image what the car portrays. You still get points for all the different classes- crew, outlaw, drift, build, etc. Keeping the vehicle in just one class really limits what you can do with it. If you pick offroad class, the car will have these ugly boxy tires. Drag class will naturally give your vehicle beefy slick tires in the back and thin water donuts in the front. But these should've been customization options, not essentials. They did attempt to give the characters more personality, but it's just an excuse to have the high school jock doing the racing and drag races, the british man who loves the thrill of offroading and drifting, and Jess? She's just the stereotype "hacker gurl mafioso." You'll just play Jess for the runner missions and you'll completely forget about her after the story is done. The lottery tuning mechanic I can understand. If all cars were the same, well.. they would all be the same. There is a live car tuning menu which is supposed to make the car handle more to your taste, but it's difficult to understand and never gives the wanted effect.
But it seems they want to move towards the players with steering wheels .
payback doesn't have wheel support...
I hope EA's Investors hear of this. Last time I checked their stocks dropped 7% from the Battlefront disaster alone, I'm sorry for all NFS fans but hearing about this makes me kinda happy because it's another ruined project for EA. Especially because some people have started looking into their scummy gambling scheme they put into everyone of their games.
I was really looking forward for this game. I had quite a lot of fun with the last need for speed game but this. Nah I've already lost interest. It all just feels like a long and boring grind. The game difficulty is... not working. Most of the time I win every single race at first try on normal. If I switch it to hard some of them becomes hard (as expected and I like that) but some others becomes impossible (unless the AI does something really stupid which haven't happened to me so far). The races have a recommended level to help you with this but I don't find it useful at all. If you play on normal you can win even though you are -20 recommended level. If you play on hard you need to have at least +40 to have a chance at winning the race. One mistake is enough to ruin the entire race. There is even a race i where you can't even pick any car. You get a car that is supposed to be for this particular race and if you are playing on hard you've fucked up. You are done. Just shut down the game, start it and then change difficulty before loading the save (yep, that's what you have to do). What if you failed early in the race? You could just restart right? Yes but there are a lot of delays and I don't think you get money for the previous race since you didn't finish it. There is one cinematic where you can accept a gamble (drift this much or jump this long during the race for extra cash). You can decline or accept. Doesn't matter how fast you accept or decline you still have to see the entire cinematic which usually includes the camera just slowly moving around some kind of construction (usually takes about 10 seconds). Why is this not skippable? I just want to play the game! After that you get to the cinematic at the start of the race where the characters always keep saying the same things. Not that long but it's long enough to annoy you, especially when the character you are playing is saying things like "I just keep on winning" when it's your 10th retry of the same race and you've lost every single time. Got enough money to buy a new cool car? Congratulations! Buy it and you will have to grind all the old races again to gain new cards to upgrade the car. This is where I stopped. I'd rather do something like doing the dishes or throwing out the trash.
