• Road workers manage to misspell a 'Keep Clear' road marking.
It’s as claer as mud, isn’t it? Road workers painting a new sign on a Black Country road have left motorists and residents chuckling after their new “Keep Clear” marking ended up rather garbled. The vowels are jumbled, leaving the instruction “Keep Claer” in large white letters on the road surface in Oak Street, Kingswinford, at the junction with a foot and cycle path that joins the road at that point. And it has got folk a-twitter – with internet tweets directing followers to look at a picture of the mis-spelled sign posted by Al Jackson on a photograph sharing website. Dudley councillor Patrick Harley, cabinet member for transportation, said: “We have been made aware that our contractor has spelt the word ‘clear’ incorrectly. “The mistake will be corrected as soon as possible by the private contracting company at no extra cost to the council,” Councillor Harley added. Hardly anyone can speak or spell properly here.
Don't know why they still use stencil sprays to do this kind of road marking and not an automated spraying system. It's probably cheaper, but that's the reason you see things like this and "Shcool Zone".
Maybe he was thinking about a woman called Clare and the word Clear at the same time and buggered it up.
Someone was drunk on the job.

EDIT: Actually, the OP was correctly spelled. It's in Norwegian. It says "KEEP CLÆR" which almost means "Fortified tower clothes"
-20 smartness
-26 actually, how could you forget?
how is this even news [editline]4th August 2011[/editline]
who would have though people with shitty jobs like road maintenance aren't the smartess bunch.
it has nothing to do with knowing how to spell. mistakes like these are easy to make
-20 smartness
Oh the nostalgia...
How can you possibly misspell this stuff ON THE ROAD? Those looked more like typos.
-20 smartness
I want that back
How can you possibly misspell this stuff ON THE ROAD? Those looked more like typos.
To be fair, it looks vastly different when you're standing right on it than when you're coming at it in a car. I had this exact job (plus other signing/painting duties) for over three years, and it does look a bit samey, so you've got to double check before you put paint down.
-20 smartness
Now I want the old Facepunch back...
The stencils were probably mixed up somehow and you don't know what it looks like until you pull them up. They're these huge rectangles that you have to lift up, place, get flat and secure for every single letter. It's around three minutes per letter, so a simple word like "STOP" is almost fifteen minutes of preparation. A good way to illustrate how difficult it is to coordinate all of this is zoom in by 400% in MS Paint and then spell a word by copy and pasting size 72 letters. Oh, and you can't zoom out, you need to save and then look. Oh and also the sun is beating down on you, it's 90 degrees everywhere else but on the road it's a good 120 or so and probably just under the temperature of the sun inside your work boots. It's not fun. Road work in general is not fun. :(

It's not like Paint cause when they're standing over it can they see the outline right? If they're doing it at the same time wouldn't all they have to do is glance over and see the stencil next to them.
Nice. Oh, well. Accidents will happen, and not much we can do but fix them.
Reminds me of the crosswalk they painted in my town that was twice as wide on one side. Good thing they even cut corners in paint quality, it washed off in about a week.

Down where I live there is one. It says "SLOW SCHOLO" but it's been painted over to say "SLOW SCHOOL" So it now says "SLOW SCHOHOLOL"
