CHINA DIY: Dude makes a submarine, another makes a plane

A Chinese worker in Wuhan, the most populous city in Central China, was laid-off from a textile machinery factory. He can only depend on his mechanic knowledge to earn a livelihood. He found a substantial market for underwater vessels with fishing capabilities, so he decided to open a factory to build small submarines. The price for the DIY built submarine cost 200,000 yuan (US$31,621) each, and he has already received 3 order this year …

The mini submarines factory now has got more than 10 employees. The man has spent roughly three million yuan (US$400 thousand) for the start-up. The mini submarine has everything needed for simple underwater work, such as grabbing and lifting, emergency oxygen reserves as well as an underwater video camera for monitoring. The mini submarine has enough room for two people and it can dive up to 30 meters, drive at the speed of 20 km/h for 10 hours, which is good for scouring riverbeds for garbage and fish. A few of the earlier prototypes reportedly sank in local lakes, but now his vessels are cleared for underwater travel.
His first customer was a sea cucumber fisherman who’s saved money for purchasing one of this mini submarine instead of hiring professional divers. The fisherman claims the submarine was not as flexible as a car but works pretty well. The DIY genius is currently building his second submarine, complete with air-tight windows and wrought iron walls. He said that building mini submarine is more than just fun and interests, but now he can see business opportunity. However, his factory can only build one mini submarine per month due to lack of funds. Well, this type of DIY-built submarine may look like a toy, but it can really become commercialize in China’s domestic market.

Li Jingchun works on his self-made aircraft (Picture: EuroPics)
After two years of hoarding scrap metal and recycling unwanted goods, including an old industrial fan, the flying fanatic realised his boyhood dream of owning his very own aircraft.
The farmer's lofty idea has taken off in a big way after assembling the amateur aircraft from scratch in the grounds of his farm in Changbai, northern China, with the help of his family.
Despite being dismissed by critics as just a flight of fancy, a determined Li Jingchun followed his dream and now wants to learn how to fly the plane for real.
'I've always loved planes since I was a little boy,' explained the 58-year-old.
'It is my dream to fly a plane as a pilot with passengers in it. I'll get there somehow no matter what it takes.'
Li Jingchun has run up bills of over £4,000 attempting to get his project off the ground to date.
But despite his huge outlay, the madcap engineer has only just started work on the plane's interior - meaning it may not be the most comfortable ride of all time...
However without an engine for his aircraft - and lack of a pilot's license - his chances of getting off the ground unfortunately look terminal.

Damn china
That's actually pretty cool.
The submarine looks like it might work. But I don't think the plane would even start, let alone fly.
Reminds me of that homemade helicopter in Africa that p. much shook itself apart.

Uhh...you're missing, like, every control surface required. I don't see anything. No rudder, elevators, ailerons, flaps, nothing.
The unfinished submarine in the first picture actually looks quite professional, and the interior looked complete for a civilian mini-sub.
This is pretty damn awesome, but you're forgetting that this is China we're talking about here. For all we know they're actually trying to escape :v:
Geez, I would not like to be the person to test a submarine.
I have some hope for the submarine, but absolutely none for the plane.

if you enhance the image onto the window above the wing, I'de say that be your answer.
That plane doesn't have a large enough wing area either, hell the wings just look like flat slabs with no airfoil at all. Only way that thing is going to fly is if you stuck a rocket on it's ass and turned it into a missile.
Would have to make the wings about twice or three times the size they are now, and properly shape them into airfoils. Not to mention smooth out the fuselage so it doesn't drag so much.

I heard he crashed and wasn't allowed to fly it anymore.
That airplane.
Holy shit that thing does not look safe.

I question the longevity of that engine running at such a high RPM.
The submarine looks very good and professional.
The plane on the other hand looks like a cardboard plane that I made when I was 6 years old.
The plane might be able to work, and I use that term loosely, if he got an engine and cut out some flappy bits. Dedicated crazy people usually find a way.

the plane will never fly, even if the prop was effective enough which i doubt, the wings have a symmetrical square cross section. That thing's never going to fly, ever.

The industrial fan will shake the plane into pieces, carefully maneuvering the wings into the correct position for take off, flight and landing.

Pfft, its just fine.
Slap the Fin Tool on that shit and a couple thrusters here and there and it'll fly like a dream.
can OP post tuts plz i need a sub
