I dislike how james is thinking its he's best. The only things I like are the facial expressions, and the environment, and that's about it. The story is way over used. And why didn't the humans have any reinforcements? And how is it that the shuttle's explosion didn't hit the trees at all? It was so close, and the amount of explosives should have damaged the tree. And how is it that the humans, missed their targets more than half the time? The environment wasn't too exicting, Was hoping for more cooler animals. Should have looked at star wars, their planets were cooler, Pandora was simply a vast tropical planet. And that's about it. What do you guys think?
Avatar was fucking awesome. CGI-wise, AND story-wise.
Avatar was a fucking bomb movie.
The story line was pretty damn predictable, but I still liked it. The CGI was jaw-dropping. Yeah the movie was worth my 14 bucks. About the humans not having reinforcements, that can be answered in a sequel. If they did have reinforcements then the movie would've been twice as long. Overall the movie was fucking incredible. Stop nitpicking.
Well after seeing the IMAX 3D Avatar movie thingy. I have to say that the CGI was fucking ridiculously intricate. Eh story was so so. Wasn't anything to write home about. There wasn't much character development, and I left the theater without even remembering some of the character's names. Story definitely could've been furthered upon. Props for the nerd engineering joke "unobtainium".
I've yet to see Avatar, but from what I can tell the basic idea is similar to Terran Conflict. Of course I'm namely refering to the protagonist originally fighting for the human race but instead growning to love the alien culture and fighting for them. Sorry for the previous run on sentence.. A little tired here.
Got to love the constant ripoff of tropes in the movie. Plot could have been ripped straight from Dances with wolves. Otherwise it was fine.
I still think District 9 is MUCH better than Avatar.
Avatar was an amazing movie, I have seen it twice allready.
Avatar was amazing Great CGI and Story. Saw it in iMax 3d and plan on seeing it again.
I still think District 9 is MUCH better than Avatar.
That was an amazing movie as well.
Avatar was a great movie. The characters were pretty good and the CGI was fucking superb. It had intensely awesome action and it was just all-around beautiful. The story was pretty predictable, but everything else more than made up for it
I still think District 9 is MUCH better than Avatar.
Really now? For what its worth, Avatar's hefty budget really paid off. Not belittling Peter Jackson's talent or anything, but I liked Avatar more. District 9 was interesting and certainly innovating but I wouldn't say that it was MUCH better than Avatar. Especially considering the $237 million budget for Avatar compared to the $30 million budget for District 9
It takes 6 years for the people to get to the planet. So why would they send reinforcements with the main group if it takes 6 years, What if those soldiers are needed back at home? It's not like they were expecting to be overtaken by the natives, And they wouldn't have been if the main dude didn't lead the attack.
I still think District 9 is MUCH better than Avatar.
Can't compare the two though.
I still think District 9 is MUCH better than Avatar.
Two completely different movies. District 9: Aliens just living life in slums, Man turns to alien, Aliens try to leave. Avatar: Humans go to alien world, Humans mine alien world, Aliens fight back. What is there similar you say? Humans and Aliens are in it.

Thats why near the beginning when Jake gets off the shuttle he calls them guns for hire?
They were actually PMCs hired by a corporation.
Why would a corporation hire more of them if they didn't expect to be taken over by natives with bows and arrows, Same concept applies.
Well for one thing they needed Jake because he was the only one left to use the avatar. As far as the rest go.... There are a lot of unexplained things in this movie like if there isn't any oxygen how are there explosions?

And did they say there was no oxygen, Because I would think they would have thought that out. I thought they said there was something else in the air.
Doesn't also Avatar include "Man turns into alien."?
Oh haha at the very end, I suppose you are right. Although they took two different approaches to it.
Why would a corporation hire more of them if they didn't expect to be taken over by natives with bows and arrows, Same concept applies.
"Sir, the natives have destroyed our whole fleet and killed almost all of our mercenaries." "Throw more mercenaries on a 6 year voyage to another bloody death battle, they'll be down" Why the fuck not?
I still think District 9 is MUCH better than Avatar.
they're the same movie except one has blue aliens
I'm pretty sure there IS oxygen, but there's also toxic gas that the humans can't breathe.
Yeah, that's mentioned in the movie, you can breathe outside, but neuro-toxins or something like that stops your heart after 60 seconds.

I, for one, very much liked the story. Sure, it's similar to lots of movies, but it's almost impossible to come up with anything original now. Everything's been done, and it's a little more about what movie does it the best. I thought Avatar did the going-native stuff better. I never saw Dances With Wolves, but whatever. And, of course, the CGI was crazy. Ok, I'll give the critics the in-your-face presentation of anti-militarism, but some people would agree with it.
I never questioned Jake's appearance in the movie. And did they say there was no oxygen, Because I would think they would have thought that out. I thought they said there was something else in the air.
They mention Ammonia in the movie, but according to the wiki there's also trace amounts of hydrogen cyanide.
If you're incapable of being entertained by the "Hero's Journey" template, then I'm afraid you're out of luck with pretty much every action/adventure movie ever made.
