It's been a good 4 years since I built my current PC, and I'm teetering back and forth on whether I want to drop the cash and upgrade. Some quick browsing of this forum section has been helpful, and I'm currently looking at these parts: Here are my current specs, and they've served me well since I built the thing. Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0Ghz Sapphire Radeon HD4850 512MB 4GB DDR2 Memory 600W OCZ StealthXStream PSU Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L LGA 775 Mobo Just a few questions. I wanted to know if my current power supply will be fine or if you'd recommended a new one? Can I get a cheaper graphics card that better suits my situation? Where does a 2GB card vs. a 1GB card factor into performance (I'm on a single 1920x1080 display)? I'm wondering if AMD is the right choice, my research seems to conclude that the 7850 is the best bang for your buck in this price range vs. nVidia. That mobo+CPU combo deal is an awesome value, but the Z77 board is markedly more expensive than a Z75 and I don't see myself making use of the extra PCI-E slot, any tips?
1. Your psu is fine 2. 2GB of memory on a gpu would be good for your resolution of 1920x1080 because it is a larger and more memory does help the card perform better at larger resolutions. Bandwidth is more helpful though, but no need to get into that. 3. Yeah, the 7850 or 7870 are the best bang for your buck if you do not need the CUDA cores in Nvidia cards. 4. Get this z77 board and this cpu instead. Same cpu, lower cost, and a cheaper board.
