A woman was arrested after she lost her cool and pulled a handgun on a teenager who was playing Ding Dong Ditch at her home.
Bernadette Greenwald, 47, from Rockville Centre, Nassau County, is accused of pointing the 9mm gun at the 17-year-old because she thought he had been ringing her doorbell and running away.
She held the boy until police came but when they did she was charged with second-degree menacing, reckless endangerment and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to the New York Post, Greenwald was apparently furious after someone rang her doorbell and then ran off three times.
So she got a revolver, fired a single shot outside of her home and then confronted the teen who was walking by, police said.
The teen was not charged and said he knew nothing about the doorbell ringing.
I don't think it was reckless.
Never mind. Missed the line where she fired a shot...
Pretty stupid if she has anyone living nearby.
Oh, and the one where she held up a kid walking by. Not even on her property...
Jesus...
drop the charges
I understand there's limits but this is just hugely excessive.
Bet those little shits were scared.
drop the charges
Why?
I'm sure she would have been much better off without firing the gun. That was a very dumb move.
I knew this game as "Knock knock ginger"

I've always known it as knockies. Apparently we're not very imaginative round here.
Hah, wow.
Looks like she's on a drug or something.
Anyway, the charges are deserved. She can't pull a gun on someone unless they're in her home without her consent, let alone shoot a gun just because someone is walking past her house.
I have a bunch of teens who do this to my house. AT 9-11PM AT NIGHT.
It's so goddamn annoying.
So I surgically removed the doorbell from the front of the house. Next step is learning how to replace doorbell with some kind of zapper, like the joy buzzers that go on your hand.

I've always known it by 'Knock down ginger'.
I've always known it as "Knock-door-run". Not very imaginative. You say it like it's one big word and it kinda slips off the tongue easy.
'ring and run' is the least corny of pretty much all the names for this activity
I bet whoever did it is laughing his ass off reading this.

Its called Knock down Ginger round here, and recently a bunch of 12-13 year-olds had a go at my front door for about 3 nights in a row. on the 3rd I waited for them to knock and as soon as they touched my doorbell, I opened the door and chased them down the street.
In Texas we called it 'Nigger Knocking'
People called it 'knicky knicky nine door' when I was younger. And we never did it to the same house twice at a time.

i knew it as 'knicker knocking' - which led to some misunderstandings
Everyone I've known has just called it knock and run when I've lived.
a 9mm revolver? wtf?
a 9mm revolver? wtf?
Well, it's not like they don't exist. But it was probably one of those words they use interchangeably in news stories involving guns like ak-47 = every assault rifle.

Probably a .38 revolver.

Depends on the state, Texas has no retreat laws. So if a threat is in my yard i can engage the suspect, i don't have to run in my house and lock the door.
As for this specific article, dumb choice on the ladies part. Maybe being at the door and telling them off would have been better. Even get the police and have them charged with trespass or serve each one of them with trespass letters. Just depends on the kids, some of them will back off other got to learn the hardway.
They should use this for "come to America" commercials.
