KITTENS!!! So I came home from work around 11 and heard WEEOO WEEOO WEEOO. At first I thought it was mice, then I went over and checked the little cat house where Grape (the mother cat's name) normally sleeps and I find about 4 WEEOOing kittens. Like just born kitten kittens. Grape has been developing tumors on her stomach for a few weeks now, she doesn't seem to be in any pain but we decided the best thing was to euthanize her so she didn't have to go throuh any pain. Luckly, we haven't yet, and she's now a proud mother. There are 4 kittens, I think. They're all in this little cat house with Grape feeding and weeooing so it's hard to see. I made sure to make the area around the cat house warm with towels and I closed up the garage so nothing would come in. I also made sure Grape had plenty of food and water. I managed to coax Grape out of the house for about a minute to get one of the kittens to crawl out. I made sure Grape was okay with me picking up one of her kittens and she didn't seem to have any issue with it. I took the kitten inside for a mintue to get some pictures. It looks like a Lion! I brought the kitten back outside and gently set her back in the cat house with Grape and his/her brothers/sisters, where she crawled back over and joined the feeding frenzy. The thing that's worrying me though is; Grape seems really weak because of the cancer and the birthing process, and I don't think she had much longer. She's taking care of her kittens and letting them feed but she isn't moving much at all. She'll pop her head out and purr and look at me but that's about as much moving as she does. I'm worried about the kittens incases she passes some point soon and I'm not around. My other question is, if she does end up passing what should I do to make sure the kittens get the correct care, etc? I know it's a very bad idea to take them away from their mom because of how old they're, but if she ends up dieing I'm going to have to. If that is the case, what exactly should I do? I.e. shelter, food, etc? Thanks Facepunch.

Aren't you that pedophile who made that world of warcraft thread about how you were stalked by a little girl?
D'awwwwwww. :3:
that's a rat on your hand, not a cat
Aren't you that pedophile who made that world of warcraft thread about how you were stalked by a little girl?
Yes. We're talking about the cats though guy.
Go to your local pet store and ask em about guidancE? ;S
Go to your local pet store and ask em about guidancE? ;S
At 3 A.M.? I'm saying she might not even make it through the night.
So she just gave birth right? She needs to be on openish/large area enough so she won't crush the kittens. And don't worry about mother dying randomly, she is just exhausted. Tomorrow she will be treating kittens with an IRON FIST! I don't know how to give food to kittens, you should go first thing in the morning to vet or pet store and ask them what to do in this situation. They will help you out.
If she passes, please don't give them milk from a jug. Cats don't have an easy time digesting it. Make sure they stay warm and look up what to give them for sustenance, because I honestly don't know. Let Grape stay with them as long as she can.
I got home at 11 P.M., it's 3 A.M. so I'm thinking it was around 8ish.
how are you going to feed the kittens when their mum dies?

I just don't know what foods they need or can eat.
First thing in the morning after eating and washing you call to vet and ask. They are professionals.
American's wash at night before bed, but I'll do that. They better not try and take my kittens though.
American's wash at night before bed, but I'll do that. They better not try and take my kittens though.
That's not part of American culture. Most people I know actually shower in the morning and I've never not lived in the US. I've also never heard anyone call a kitten's mewing "weeooing".

Off to bed FP. I'll make sure to call the vet, and free feel to drop some information. I'll try to keep everyone updated.
place the kittens in your mouth for warmth if you feel the urge to chew, do not resist it, kittens are notoriously elastic theyll be fine
Your cat might not appear to be overly energetic after giving birth anyway, obviously it's a stressful and exhausting experience that will take a while for them to recover from. Other than that, a mother cat will remain very close to her kittens for the first few days, allowing them to feed as much as possible and put on maximum weight (because in the first few days there are particular extra nutrients given out which are essential to a kitten's immune system). If you need to take her to the vet, it's important that you take the kittens with her too. They're too young to be separate for that amount of time and she could easily abandon them because of that. I'd advise to ring the vet first and seek advice, then just keep an eye on her. It seems there isn't much you can really do except keep her warm, calm and happy. If she does need to be euthanased/die soon, it isn't impossible to hand-rear kittens. The last time a cat of mine had a litter, she rejected them straight away and we basically hand-reared them after the first day or so. You can get special syringe-feeding kits from vets and off the internet, and get special milk/nutrient mixes to feed them with. You just have to make sure that they are kept at a warm, constant temperature and that you carefully sterilise everything you use to feed them. Hope things work out okay for you OP.
Oh god this is sad :( poor Grape, and poor kittens who may have to grow up without their mum. But if the worst happens you can feed and care for kittens yourself, there have been many cases of mother cats rejecting a kitten or their whole litter and the kitten(s) being raised by humans instead. Definitely call the vet, they can explain to you how to care for them correctly. Good luck!
Time to get me some raid. What? No one remembers that thread?

The issue right now is we're not sure if the mother is feeding them. My mom is talking to a veterinary friend of hers right now and because of the tumors she may not be able to feed them right. I haven't been able to tell if they're feeding or not, but if they aren't we're going to do it by hand. I gave Grape some more food and she's up and walking around right now. It's just bothering me because she seems really disinterested in them. The kittens are all moving around and being loud though. There's 5.
How exactly does a cat get cancer? same way as humans?
Yeah, cell mutation. That's why most pet animals can get cancer. They all have cells. This thread made me sad, I've seen many orphan cats and ill cats and I've lost one of my own to cancer. I hope the kittens all make it through. :(

Pet stores sell kitten milk. It comes in a little can and it's made for kittens. I know because a few years ago on vacation I found an abandoned kitten in a friend's boat. We fed him kitten milk and took him home; he turned out to be one of the best damn cats I ever had. He died about a year ago from a pre-existing heart attack he had the previous summer. RIP Spartan Never forget.
I wouldn't feel bad for your cat OP, from what it sounds like it's your cats time to go. You have to think about it like this, it will be sad when she dies, but who is going to take care of her 5 newborns? You will have to remember her by protecting her children.
