• Isometric pixel art needed for MMOCC
    20 replies, posted
About a month ago, me and a friend decided to make a MMOCC (Massive Multiplayer Online Chat Community) Mostly for experience. We started using placeholder textures from Habbo Hotel because we don't have a pixel artist. The engine has got to the stage where we can't be ripping off Habbo Hotel and need some of our own art. I seen some fucking awesome isometric pixel art in this section a while back so I may as well ask here. We currently have the foundations of an engine with smart A* player path-finding and the start of a UI lib. We will be adding all the features you would expect in a MMOCC game. Furniture placement, chatting, in-game radio's, things like that. This isn't recruitment or anything. It's a thread to show off your ideas and for your ideas to be used in a MMOCC. You don't have to contribute if you don't want to. I thought this could be a nice game for facepunch to piss around on. Also this is built with C++ and DirectX
Looks cool, good luck with your project =)
Saw this in the programming section before, I have to say it looks like it could become a nice little MMOCC. It would be fun to help but I don't think I would be of any asset for the project since I'm pretty bad at isometric art plus I'm to lazy :keke:
I would love to help out a little, but I don't know what sizes should things be.
That looks like a cool project! I also tried to make something isometric just to test! Hope it looks ok?
habbo much ?
habbo much ?
hence why we need original art
hence why we need original art
I do believe you should attempt to make more than just a social community. Although they can be fun to an extent. They get boring after a while. I'd make it have more of a goal whether it be some type of RPG or have a neat fighting system or something. Having some kind of direction you'd like to go would also help people come up with art that pertains to that idea. I don't really have a strict plan. It's art we have the problem with. Characters are hard to design, let alone with pixel art and in isometrics.
It would help if you gave us a size to work with, and an idea of what you want. Otherwise we'd have horribly proportioned sprites.
A good idea is to copy the image in the OP, and use the squares there...
It would help if you gave us a size to work with, and an idea of what you want. Otherwise we'd have horribly proportioned sprites.
Well all we need is a concept of how players will look, just a basic body head legs arms that we can then make object sizes based off the player. There isn't a strict rule size but here's the tile size we're using and a block to show average player height Pretty much habbo inspired but your own style. The base body doesn't have to be complex or anything, just a basic shape of a isometric person, we're planning on having players create their own clothes and accessories so the body just needs to be a reference, nothing fancy.
I can't do it full time but I'd be more than happy to help out.
You could use it for a placeholder or some shit. Also, Dev textures ;D
heh thats pretty cool

We already have a dev textures like that in greyscale so we can just add a color property in code
:(
:(
I've put a face on it:
