So to people in the UK with ISP Virgin Media you may be familiar with the GoFaster upgrade that they have been doing with customers with a 2mb connection being upgraded to 10mb connection where you got a little leaflet telling you about it and go to the Virgin Media website then register your upgrade in your area. Anyway, I just only recently done it and after I done it yesterday I had to wait a little while for the effect to take place. This morning about 2am I done a speed test to see if it had worked alright.
The results were as expected around 9mb for download and not sure about upload. However, today downloads were really fast about 800kb per second on the mirror I was downloading on. Then it went down to around 120kb. I thought this was just due to the website I was downloading from though when I now do the speed test (http://www.speedtest.net) it only reaches 2mb on the speedometer.
I've heard about how Virgin have capped there speeds at peak hours to people who download alot however I shouldn't have been effected by this since I read somewhere that it only takes place between 2pm and 9pm I think... but the speeds dropped at like 11am in the morning. Does anyone here have any idea what's going on and if its related to the speedcapping at all or perhaps an error on there side with something reverting?
Thanks
I get capped at 117KBps if I go over the cap
The cap is if you go over 3GB (I think, they keep changing it) And then it lasts for 5 hours.
The cap for 10Mb Customers is 3GB
The cap for 2-10MB Upgraders is 1.5GB

I am a heavy downloader and it doesn't really affect me.
Thanks for the quick and informative response Tezza :)
I don't mind the cap since I won't be downloading all the time it was just this particular file that was really large. I was worried that perhaps I was going to have to phone them up in person and spend like an hour speaking to someone or rather listening to an answer machine but thanks for clearing this up. :P
