• (HELP) PC died on me, nothing is showing on my monitor

Hey guys, Just this morning, I was using my computer as usual. I started playing NFS Most Wanted for less than 2 minutes and suddenly my computer shut off itself, instantaneously. The PC was still running but the entire screen turned black, and music from the background was gone either (so I assumed it turned off itself). After which I proceed to turn off the power and turn it on again, but it could not boot this time. Nothing was showing on the screen, not even the BIOS. This is the first time it has happened and I'm not really sure what's going on. I have had this PC for 10 months, custom built in a pc shop. Any clues? When I turn on the PC, all fans are running and the CPU light is solid (no blinking). There seems to be a weirder sound coming out though from the hard disk? Not sure whether I heard this sound before or not. Could it be a hard disk failure? [editline]8th February 2016[/editline] Apparently, after pulling out the power supply cable for 3 minutes and putting it back in did the trick. There are two lights on the power, initially when it didn't boot up one of them did not blink. Now it's blinking again. Is this the HDD power light? What was the exact cause of this? Should I be worried?
Harddisk problems do not prevent your computer from turning on it prevents you from running Windows. There is typically a Harddrive activity light that goes on when it's being accessed there is no indicator that a harddrive has power other then it showing up in your bios. As for what happened I guess you should get this: [url]https://www.piriform.com/speccy[/url] and monitor the temperature listed and post a screenshot. Sounds like it could be heat related. There's not much that causes computers to just shut off temperature is most likely.
Check temps with speccy as moe said while playing a game. Many things could have caused the crash. Based on the fix what prevented it from turning back on was most likely overcharged caps, nothing to worry about. Pulling the PSU cable let them drain for a bit.
It could also be that your PSU is faulty
Okay, it happened again! I was playing the exact same game (NFS Most Wanted) and it shut my computer automatically. Funny thing was the lights were still on (PC indicator) just that my monitor turned itself to saving mode and everything went off (no songs playing). I realised when this happened, an indicator light stops showing up when I boot (not sure what indicator, could it be HDD?) whereas when it's working fine the indicator will blink from time to time. Meanwhile, I hope it works using my previous method and I'll download Speccy to observe the temps. What are the possible reasons for this happening?
What are your specs, including the PSU model?
Even with the previously method, it still can't boot. I unplugged the psu for 10 mins and the system turned on with all fans running but my monitor is still in power saving mode. No bios too. My specs are ASrock H81M-HDS R2 Intel i3-4160 Sapphire R9 280 Crucial 8gb ddr3 1600 Western Digital Blue 1TB Corsair CX500M PSU
When you unplug the PSU hold the power button for about 10 seconds, then plug it in and boot it. Report back with results.
Can I reiterate that there's an indicator light that will blink everytime I boot up? Currently when my PC is not working, there is no light. Usually, it flashes. [editline]8th February 2016[/editline] Still doesn't work. Levelog, I tried your method but it's still the same. Your methods weren't so clear so I held the power button while I unplug the PSU, hold another 10secs, let go and plug it in again and turn it on. Seems like the fan suddenly turns on loudly and everything but after few seconds it quietens down. But the fans are still running just that it was soft.
Sounds like a bad power supply to me, I suggest replacing it. [QUOTE=Levelog;49696578]Based on the fix what prevented it from turning back on was most likely overcharged caps, nothing to worry about. Pulling the PSU cable let them drain for a bit.[/QUOTE] That makes no sense at all, the capacitors are just there for power supply filtering it doesn't matter if they're charged or empty when you turn it on, you can't overcharge them either unless the power supply is putting out a much higher voltage than it should be.
After leaving it alone for 3 hours, I finally managed to boot it up. Made no sense to me, because this was the first time it happened. Anyone can shed some light on me on how I should go about diagnosing this? [editline]9th February 2016[/editline] I replicated the issue again on NFS Most Wanted. After 5 minutes of racing around it happened again. I was alternating against Speccy and the last time I saw my GPU was running at 67*C and my CPU was around 60+*C (couldn't recall). Is this a software issue with NFS Most Wanted?
That's the exact symptom of bad power supply capacitors, replace it.

OP, i'd disconnect the drive for now until you can get at least to the BIOS, drives don't tend to like constantly being powered on and off that frequently.
Sigh. This happened once again, this time on NFS Rivals. I played BF3 and BF4 for 10 months but nothing like this has ever happened, but only occurs for NFS. Why? Should I contact Corsair to replace my PSU?
