• EA wants to be voted the best company in America
Back in April, EA was voted the worst company in America for the second year on the trot. And you’d expect a games publisher as big as EA, with execs as bullish as Andrew Wilson or Peter Moore, to simply brush that off. After all, EA isn’t exactly supplying guns to dictatorships or promoting tobacco to kids. It’s just a company that’s responsible for some bloody good games. But as it turned out, being voted the worst company hurt EA deeply. “I don’t believe for a second that we are the worst company in America, but I do believe when something like that happens, you have to sit down and ask yourselves ‘Why are people saying these things?’,” says Patrick Söderlund, EVP of EA Studios. “We did that and we started to realise that we are doing things that people don’t like.”
Source
BHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHA Hrm. Be fair to your customers and stop treating your devs like trick talking meat. There's a thought.
what rock has this guy been living under

“We did that and we started to realise that we are doing things that people don’t like.”
Well.. NO SHIT?
i laughed my arse off when i read the title oh man i have no words ..... no words at all
Even if they started improving their business practices, once faith is restored and they start earning more money they'll do it all over again, just like a few years ago.
This is probably directly led to the Humble Origin Bundle.
This is probably directly led to the Humble Origin Bundle.
Which was a good move. Everything EA got out of that went to charities, too.
what rock has this guy been living under
Isn't he relatively new to EA though? IIRC some of their business practices have been less... rapey since the old CEO left.
They could start with improving the customer service to not be crap. Any company that takes the time to do that gets a 1up in my book.
Stop being shitty then.
Or i could vote for Valve. Or ID Software. Or Bethesda. Or Rockstar Games.
It baffles me how out of all the companies a game company can even be voted best or worst one.
It baffles me how out of all the companies a game company can even be voted best or worst one.
it isn't the worst but obviously people are going to vote for a company in the entertainment industry nobody gives a shit about corrupt oil or banking companies we just know they are bad and will always be bad
The Origin return policy is currently the only really good thing about EA. I wish Steam did that. I have a couple of games I bought that would have been returned after few hours of playing.
it isn't the worst but obviously people are going to vote for a company in the entertainment industry nobody gives a shit about corrupt oil or banking companies we just know they are bad and will always be bad
Its in part that but also a few more reasons. First of all, its an internet poll directed at consumers. Gamers are by and large internet using consumers. Second, the others lack the concentrated effort put in to making EA win the title. Third, EA is actually a company that will actually give a semblance of a shit. Bank of America is terrible, but they basically take pride in it and genuinely don't give a shit. Consumer opinion doesn't matter to them, they're Bank of America. They wouldn't even pause to consider anything from getting the award. EA at least will stop and go "What could this be about?" Because they depend on consumer opinion to some degree. So there is that potential to actually change something from calling EA the worst. Saying it to Bank of America wouldn't even elicit a shoulder shrug, let alone any changes.
ok but people still buy their games by the boat-load so this arbitrary distinction doesnt have any meaning to anyone beyond the tiny internet collective who actually knew about it
EA isn't the worst company in America, there are a lot worse companies that do more evil than a gaming publisher, people are just stupid. Target corporations that use sweatshop workers for cheap labor and that damage the environment for fuck sake
EA wants to be voted the best company in America
Yeah you can kiss my arse EA. Edited: And second of all EA, we don't want to have babies with you after what you did to us customers.
This is a better approach than capping off yet another badly thought out open letter with something like "The tallest trees catch the most wind." For a company that apparently doesn't deserve this kind of treatment from consumers, the way they reacted to the last two wins could have fooled me.
Step 1: Stop forcing people to use the cesspit that is Origin. Step 2: Stop making the damn server browser be in my browser, it's clunky as shit. Step 3: Stop being dicks to your employees.
Step 4: Stop being

Step 1: Stop forcing people to use the cesspit that is Origin.
Origin is actually great. It runs smoother than Steam does for me and game downloads are noticeably faster.
Step 2: Stop making the damn server browser be in my browser, it's clunky as shit.
Assuming you are talking about Battlefield games, their ingame server browsers weren't much better or were outright worse.
Battlelog isn't the worst thing in the world but I would definitely prefer not having to use it. Same with Origin.
Stuff like this seriously makes me wonder if the only idea these people had of the outside world is what their investors told them.
you won't get any votes for it as long as you keep up with the battlefield 4 bullshit [editline]28th November 2013[/editline] Or that trash that was nba live
I'm pretty sure BattleLog was DICE's decision.
It baffles me how out of all the companies a game company can even be voted best or worst one.
The internet is still run by nerds and nerds hate EA for yo-yoing between 'not bad but not great' and 'worse than Activision' every couple of years.
The internet is still run by nerds and nerds hate EA for yo-yoing between 'not bad but not great' and 'worse than Activision' every couple of years.
On the other hand, from a company standpoint, they've also been fucking over artists and programmers by absorbing successful studios, making shit marketing decisions and then axing them from time to time as collateral for said shitty decisions. When EA's CEO stepped down in Feb, they made a wave of cuts, including some here in India. My two best buddies lost their jobs that month too, one of them is (I suspect) hiding symptoms of depression because the market is so shit right now everyone is having trouble finding jobs. The other guy I had to loan cash twice just to survive because his dad is gone and he has to look after his elderly mother with a laundry list of medical problems. Without insurance. Every time someone says a game is shit, it's not the assholes who came up with the absurd policies (DRM, always online, other form of cruel and bizarre torture to legit paying customers) to begin with, it's usually the guys who worked ridiculous hours to make that game who get canned. If EA wants to be treated with any shred of respect, let them start by making sure the people who work hard to make their games aren't fucked over.
Or i could vote for Valve. Or ID Software. Or Bethesda. Or Rockstar Games.
I'm going to vote for the people that made badratz just to take the piss out of ea "badratz is better than ea"
and I'd like to be voted pope oh and possibly prince of monaco
