Online commentators in the US have condemned the actions of an American woman after she killed a 465kg alligator in South Carolina.
Mary Ellen Mara-Christian, 48, made headlines across the US over the weekend as the 1.52m, 52kg woman who managed to kill a 4m alligator.
But she has since been the subject of criticism after reports she took two hours to kill the animal while on a trip to Lake Moultrie as part of the state's hunting season.
"This woman should be in jail, not on TV," wrote one commentator on carolinalive.com, a South Carolina news website.
Baddass for killing it, fail for not wrestling with it like a pro.
my grandfather wrestled an alligator while he was in pearl harbor

Mine made soup for the army.
Rate me cabbages.
She's not badass, she killed an animal that wasn't attacking her.
She killed something that had valuable genes, what an ass.
It's a fucking animal. Why do people care
It's a fucking animal. Why do people care
Oh, it was fairly heavy for it's size.
Mine WAS soup for the army!
soylent green
It's an alligator. They kill more of us than we kill of it.
:smugdog:
Killing for sport is dumb. They better eat that thing.
Actually Alligator is quite tasty, but that aside she was clearly not a professional hunter as she failed to kill the quarry in an efficient and respectable manner, 2 hours just seems like she ran at it with a club or something like that.
Mrs Mara-Christian, along with her husband and a hunting guide, took hours to secure the alligator with rods and snares on the boat before shooting it eight times with a .22 calibre gun.
.22 against a 465kg alligator you wouldn't hunt deer with that round, it's borderline retarded. It's also pretty disgraceful actually.
Alligator skin shit is really ugly. I don`t even know why there's a market for it.
The woman just looks like some slack-jawed backwater mouth-breather who killed an alligator for fun. Not even sure why theres an alligator hunting season. Theres not much edible meat on them in proportion to their entire mass, and alligator skin is as ugly as fuck.
She might be a complete retard (who the hell uses a .22 against an alligator), but there is nothing wrong with this. We have hunting seasons for a reason, that reason being that hunting controls the population, but doesn't lower it too much. Also, that's a lot of good meat. I'll bet she had one hell of a barbecue after that.

.22 is basically geared to large rodents and light self defense, not 1000 pound alligators.
Apparently none of you have seen the show Swamp People on the History channel.
Since when did people give a shit about alligators?
I don't give a shit about the alligator and it's life, what I do give a shit about is that all of the scientific potential wasted.
You're an animal. Surly you won't be missed when you're shot dead.
A++ logic, I'll never kill a insect again or eat meat.
Since when did people give a shit about alligators?
Yeah this surprised me too, generally they only get up in arms when it is fluffy and cute or has been portrayed in a Disney cartoon.
when I seen the caliber she used I had a :psyduck: moment.
Hey, I'm just using his logic.
No you're not, civilized humans who have gotten this far are way more valuable than puppies, cats, or alligators.
I have one thing to say, karma's going to be a real bitch when it comes around to bite her in the ass.

D- response, insect is not an animal.
D- response, insect is not an animal.
Well actually, they are being that they belong to the kingdom of Animalia.
Other than that there is almost no relation to any mammals. Insects (+ most arthropods for that matter) and Microorganisms are basically organic robots.
I tend to think that certain animals have more value than others, value referring to the moral repercussions of killing one. Humans being the most valuable, then animals like dolphins and whales, dogs, cats, and so on and so fourth. Alligators are high enough up in my mind that if you are killing one a degree of respect and empathy needs to be upheld..

F--- response, grab a biology book.
No, they don't. They don't kill humans to use their skin for fucked items like handbags.
We do: http://www.humanleather.co.uk/

Vegetarians are cool.
More meat for me. :buddy:
.223 would've been more acceptable for this assuming you have enough powder backing it.
I don't see the real problem with the killing of the alligator.. I'm a hunter and I'm fine with killing animals (for food, I only really hunt deer). But the thing that bothers me is that they had to constrain the animal.. traps are one thing, hunting for food is another, but this wasn't for either.. this was just tying a big animal down and killing it..
It's just unnecessary.. but life will go on.
