• 'Prime Minister, did you know?': Theresa May dodges 'nuclear cover-up' question FOUR times
Theresa May has dodged four times a question on whether she knew about a Trident nuclear missile malfunction ahead of a Parliamentary debate. Asked four times whether she had known of the in-flight malfunction she refused to answer. Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show she said: "I have absolute faith in our Trident missiles. When I made that speech in the House of Commons, what we were talking about was whether or not we should renew our Trident, whether or not we should have Trident missiles and an independent nuclear deterrent in the future." Pressed by Mr Marr, who said, "Did you know that it had happened?" Ms May said: "I think we should defend our country." Mr Marr asked: "This is a very serious incident. Did you know about it?" "Prime Minister, did you know?" Mr Marr asked. Ms May said: "There are tests that take place all the time, regularly, for our nuclear deterrent." Finally Mr Marr conceded: "I'm not going to get an answer."
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-trident-andrew-marr-interview-cover-up-watch-video-a7539896.html Holy fuck. Seeing her squirm is pretty funny, now I see why she does most of her work behind closed doors and keeps the public in the dark so much
It's not a cover up, it's common sense. Not publicly talking about a critical failure of your only nuclear deterrence is crucial to maintaining the belief of deterrence in the mind's of your potential enemies. Anyway, a single missile failure is not cause for concern. The US and Britain have a shared inventory of Trident IIs comprised of hundreds of missiles that are tested several times per year.

I'm going to say that Theresa May is just plain incompetent at this point. She is unfit for the job and only got into that position by default and she is the last person I would trust to run a whelk stall let alone Brexit.
If you can't answer a fucking yes or no question you shouldn't be prime minister, we shouldn't accept this sort of shit, I don't get why we should. I'd rather a "No comment" than them trying to dodge the question with dog shit answers, we might be stupid but not that stupid

Every time I see an MP dodge a question blatantly I get a nervous twitch, the public need people who can be straight and honest now more than ever, not question dodgers. I'm glad we have people in the media such as Jeremy Paxman who don't take any shit.

I'm not a huge fan of her politically, but she seems to act professionaly. Although she does have some sensible things to say
I severely dislike Corbyn, but I hate that her default fallback position when faced with a difficult question is to just attack the opposition leader.
I severely dislike Corbyn, but I hate that her default fallback position when faced with a difficult question is to just attack the opposition leader.
That appears to have been a thing since the days of Blair. It's been somewhat of a thing over here too but to a lesser degree.

I agree that this happens, and it's annoying, but this seems to be a specific instance? It's like you're confusing the difference between "did you take my money?" and "is it okay to take my money?". She could've like, y'know, said "yes" and still explained why she didn't say that she knew.
Yeah, the only reason this random failure is news is because people are increasingly crying for us to scrap Trident and step back from the world stage. Let President Trump's America handle things, there is no need for Britain to be a superpower. Christ, the sooner Labour and their awful new rhetoric dies, the better.
But Britain isn't a super power currently and hasn't been one since the end of the Second World War at-least.
What would be the problem to answering the question? Did she think she could get away with treating a seasoned interviewer like Marr like a fucking cretin without it being picked up on? Why does British politics have to be such a depressing joke? [editline]22nd January 2017[/editline] Labour and the Tories are run by unlikable cunts and the Lib Dems are just unelectable. We are barrelling straight towards a system just like the US and its terrible.

That said, she could have just come up with some bollocks about keeping quiet for national security purposes.

They've had just over 160 consecutive successful tests until this, to put things into perspective, the new Russian Bulava, has failed 12 out of 24 tests.

I guess people just want as much centre right shit to muse over as possible.
Reminds me when Davey boy got questioned on why we voted on Saudi Arabia's bid for the UN Human Rights Council. She still can't top our good ol' boy Georgie:
"It was in an area that was a danger to our ships!"
Corbyn is no better, he wanted to disarm the nukes, making them conventional warheads How much of an idiot do you have to be to reduce your current firepower? Its a deterrent.

I don't support all his positions but he has a pretty solid argument concerning Trident, albeit there are some holes and who knows how a nuclear firing would actually go down.
This is naive, the UK Government shouldn't share everything with the world.
It's well known that the misfire happened now. The least she can do is tell us if she knew about it.

What's wrong with that?
It's well known that the misfire happened now. The least she can do is tell us if she knew about it.
we know she knew.
Yes, a deterrent that we wouldn't fire unless fired upon. What's wrong with that?
because i'd be far more worried about the one coming towards us than ensuring the deaths of millions who likely had no part in firing it in the first place.
The whole point of nuclear deterrence is to not use nuclear weapons, they are there as a form of 'don't fuck with me, I've got nukes'
