Ms Conway mentioned the supposed attack while defending the president's immigration executive order to temporarily suspend travel from seven majority-Muslim nations. “I bet it’s brand new information to people that President Obama had a six-month ban on the Iraqi refugee programme after two Iraqis came here to this country, were radicalised and they were the masterminds behind the Bowling Green massacre,” Ms Conway said in an interview with MSNBC. “Most people don’t know that because it didn’t get covered.” It is believed she was referring to two Iraqis in Bowling Green, Kentucky, who were convicted of terrorist activities after killing US soldiers in 2011. However, the incident happened in Iraq. Mohanad Shareef Hammadi and Waad Ramadan Alwan were sentenced to life for using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) against American soldiers. The incident led to Barack Obama ordering a fresh screening of roughly 57,000 Iraqis refugees who had entered the country and tougher checks for those coming in the future. The move slowed the refugee process down considerably, however it was not an outright ban, as claimed by Mr Trump and his advisers.
...does this counts as "trying to rewrite history"?
Nope, I will not participate in my mandated Two Minutes Hate today, Ms. Conway. I refuse.
can we nip this alternative information problem in the bud before it becomes a major problem in our democracy?
...does this counts as "trying to rewrite history"?
No, these are just alternative facts
...does this counts as "trying to rewrite history"?
All I can think of is the "Based on a True Story" caption played before any historic movie comes out
can we nip this alternative information problem in the bud before it becomes a major problem in our democracy?
It became a major problem the second Trump became a legitimate political candidate for president.
In the media, we're technically not allowed to call this kind of behavior lying, because "we cannot determine intent." Instead, we have to refer to it by any number of euphemisms (alternative facts, etc), for, among other reasons, avoiding the lawyers. In this case, where the falsehood is directly being used to justify an action the government is undertaking, I believe we would be totally safe in calling this a genuine lie. The intent is clear. This was said to deceive. Now, we see if the industry can grow itself a spine and actually stand up for the freedom of accurate reporting.

Even GoT's fucking King Joffrey wasn't as bad as this administration. Sure was a hell of a lot more mature.
I don't post here very often but I just logged back in to say that, as a British person, it boggles the mind to think anybody could be as dumb, misinformed, and manipulative as this woman.
can we nip this alternative information problem in the bud before it becomes a major problem in our democracy?
That train left the station a long time ago, dude. Fox News was laying the track from the day Obama took office.
I don't post here very often but I just logged back in to say that, as a British person, it boggles the mind to think anybody could be as dumb, misinformed, and manipulative as this woman.
I think what should concern you more is that someone that dumb and misinformed has the power to be so manipulative.
She's not misinformed, she knows exactly what she's saying. She knows it isn't true.
I don't wanna be That Guy but BOY GOLLY GEE is this looking more and more like 1984 every day.
can we nip this alternative information problem in the bud before it becomes a major problem in our democracy?
I'm all for it even if it's a little late, but can we just call it lies please?
It is believed she was referring to two Iraqis in Bowling Green, Kentucky, who were convicted of terrorist activities after killing US soldiers in 2011. this thread is very disrespectful. can we please have a fucking moment of silence for the bowling green victims?
this thread is very disrespectful. can we please have a fucking moment of silence for the bowling green victims?
Exactly, this shows why we need a Muslim ban! [editline]3rd February 2017[/editline] we also have to keep the mexicans out!
If we bar the Muslims, then we'll have enough money left over to increase the chocolate rations to 25 grams from 30 grams.
this thread is very disrespectful. can we please have a fucking moment of silence for the bowling green victims?
Soylent Green doesn't have any "victims", what are you talking about? Soylent Greens is made of high-energy plankton, this is common knowledge.
Even GoT's fucking King Joffrey wasn't as bad as this administration. Sure was a hell of a lot more mature.
Speaking of GoT, maybe we should start cutting out the tongues of politicians who lie like this and know damn well what they're doing. They couldn't serve as politicians anymore (being able to speak is kind of important), and it's a brutal message: "Don't be a bullshitter, or else.":v: At any rate, we need to start introducing punishments against people like this, including the possibility of long-term imprisonment (and not in comfortable prisons either). It's not acceptable, and the longer it goes on for the more it damages our country.
Soylent Green doesn't have any "victims", what are you talking about? Soylent Greens is made of high-energy plankton, this is common knowledge.
Honestly, I prefer the competing brand. You know, the one that's made with fish, plankton, and protein from the sea?
She's not misinformed, she knows exactly what she's saying. She knows it isn't true.
She was probably talking about the massacre where people got evacuated to a golf course, but she's an idiot and got the story completely wrong. Honestly don't give these people credit where they don't deserve it, the Trump admin aren't calculated they're just dumb lucky.

-really bad reading sorry-
I think it is important for the people that we start talking about these things with everyone around us. Otherwise things will quickly become one sided and we would all suffer from it. We definitely need to raise awareness of our new governments actions.
