The title is self-explaining.
I`m using Windows 7.
Oh, and BTW, a simple and dumb question: how frequently should I defrag the system? First time Im doing it.

I personally defrag about once a month, but some people have it so that it defrags every day. It's really up to you.
Defraggler. Or if you can't be bothered to remember to do it, or would rather have it defrag behind-the-scenes, Auslogics Disk Defrag Screensaver. It is important to note, however, that Defraggler will defrag slightly better; it is hard to explain and I'd rather not explain why unless I have to. The easiest way to explain it would be through pictures but it's 1:00 A.M where I am and I am tired right now.
If you remember to use Defraggler once every few weeks or make a habit out of defragging it every night with auto-shutdown on, everything will be nice and tidy.
How often you decide to defrag it is entirely up to you. I normally just open Defraggler every time I download a large file (such as an MMO) so that it loads quicker when I first start playing/using it. I also defrag it every night as I'm going to bed unless it isn't needed.
But in essence, the best thing to do would generally be to defrag it whenever you notice things taking longer to load, such as games or music, or if some programs take longer than usual to start.
The screensaver will pretty much take care of all of this for you, but obviously you'd want to make sure that your computer gets an hour or two to run the screensaver every once in a while.
Ultradefrag is pretty nice and straight foward. Not to mention stupidly fast. I run it occasionally on my HDD.
Thanks guys. Im also using CCleaner and Its from the same developers, so Im gonna try this thing. And yeh, I think Im going for option a) "remember to defrag once a week" or something.

WHOA! 8GB free space :O
god what 8 GB of free space
What do you HAVE on there man??
I have a 1 TB drive in my computer and only 87 GB is used.
/clean freak
Also, that's quite a bit of fragmentation. Not too terrible considering how much stuff is on your HD.
8GB free space? That is gonna take a LONG time to defrag. You should have atleast 15% free space otherwise a defrag could take days.
If you have an SSD, don't defrag EVER.
But I don't think that's the case here.

Reason?
Also, happy 1,000th post
Reason?
An SSD isn't mechanical, the whole reason behind needing to defragment mechanical disks is because data is physically written to different locations on the disk. An SSD is purely electrical, it doesn't take longer to access two separate portions of data like a conventional disk because it doesn't need to physically move any parts to read data.
Oh, thank you, I understand

Grr, I went to eat breakfast and got ninja'd.
O&O Defrag
Diskeeper
Defraggler is and always has been shit to me. I just tried it out again, analysed a disk which was at 15% fragmented, ran the defragmenter, and now its 19%?
I really need to defrag. My 1TB HDD is 70% fragmented. :v:

And now for some reason I can't defrag that 19%
System files can't be defragmented, so maybe that is the 19%.
btw Windows 7's default defragger runs every 3 days, so it won't be your first defragmentation
