Preliminary information coming through, NORAD has just added the object to it's catalogue. Now how long before it falls.
I wonder how the US will respond.
Hopefully the security council will get us something meaningful...
The optimist in me wants to think that any non-weaponry based endeavors in space travel are a good thing, and I try to be congratulatory to the cache of engineers who are likely celebrating as best they can in a nation that so rarely has reason to celebrate.

Now, as long as it doesn't EMP us like in Homefront. :v:
Yeah, that.
Most likely a spy satellite.
494 x 588 km sun-synch orbit
pssh, they can't even circularize their orbits. maybe they should play ksp some time!
Its impressive that they have finally gotten something into orbit, I wonder what they are planning to do with the thing that is in orbit.
holy shit. They actually got a satellite into orbit. no fucking way
pssh, they can't even circularize their orbits. maybe they should play ksp some time!
Maybe this is why they finally managed to get it into orbit, KSP came out between this attempt and the previous one.
NORAD and USNORTHCOM Public Affairs December 11, 2012 PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. - North American Aerospace Defense Command officials acknowledged today that U.S. missile warning systems detected and tracked the launch of a North Korean missile at 7:49 p.m. EST. The missile was tracked on a southerly azimuth. Initial indications are that the first stage fell into the Yellow Sea. The second stage was assessed to fall into the Philippine Sea. Initial indications are that the missile deployed an object that appeared to achieve orbit. At no time was the missile or the resultant debris a threat to North America.
Well, this was entirely unexpected. Um, congratulations, I guess?
GG Kim-Jong, now run along and go feed your peasants.

I wonder how we make sure their shit doesn't crash into ours.
They've got only a couple of weeks left to emp us
I wonder how we make sure their shit doesn't crash into ours.
We fortify our satellites with burgers and 100% rustoleum.
I wonder how we make sure their shit doesn't crash into ours.
You can't. You just have to hope they don't hit into something else.
Why are facepunchers so excited by the prospect of North Koreans in space?
After detecting the launch, South Korea immediately deployed KT_Flash and JaeDong to the border in order to protect South Korea.
Why are facepunchers so excited by the prospect of North Koreans in space?
Because space is awesome, no matter who is doing it.
