The New York attorney general has begun an inquiry into Turing Pharmaceuticals, whose fiftyfold overnight increase in the price of a 62-year-old infection drug stoked a backlash against high pharmaceutical prices.
The attorney general’s office is looking not so much at the price increase itself but at whether Turing may have violated antitrust rules by restricting distribution of the drug, Daraprim, as a way to thwart generic competition, according to a letter sent by the attorney general’s office to Turing on Monday.
“While competition might ordinarily be expected to deter such a massive price increase, it appears that Turing may have taken steps to prevent that competition from arising,” said the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times.
The letter was addressed to Martin Shkreli, the 32-year-old former hedge fund manager who runs Turing, and was signed by Eric J. Stock, the chief of the antitrust bureau. It asks that Turing contact the attorney general’s office immediately to discuss the situation and tells the company to “retain all documents that are potentially relevant to this inquiry.”
I'm glad the authorities are looking into this.
Bet he's not so smug now.

Finally some acceptable regulation.
Good, this fucker needed the long arm of the law up his ass.

I hope he gets punished.
Sounds like hes trying to make it so his company is the only one making this drug.
I seriously hope this guy faces from prison time for this. Trying to get rich off people's suffering is horrible. We already have enough problems with health insurance.

get destroyed
Hey look that thing that probably was illegal was carried out in a manner that is illegal!
Too bad people will still suffer for years as this gets dragged through the justice system
If his words are anything to go by, don't they have policies that ensure average or even poorer citizens get access to expensive drugs as well?

He also gave his word that they were going to reduce the price in response to the backlash, and then never did, and then laughed about it on social media. This chucklehead's "word" means less than nothing. It's all just a game to him.

I like to think the best of people, but alright while he clearly didn't cut the price of the drug, and he's been a bit of a shithead on media (which frankly is odd for a pharma CEO) surely there must be at least one good reason behind it all.

He'll be able to afford 6 mansions instead of 5!
I legitimately would not be surprised if that were the "good" reason.
