As the thread title says, which online movie review aggregator do you usually go to to find out how a movie fares? I prefer RottenTomatoes. People complain that they're always too critical on movies, but the fact is a lot of movies these days are made with sub-par quality, and that's not an excuse for someone to lower their standards. Besides, the movie that are actually good do get high marks that they deserve.
rottentomatoes for movies metacritic for games
IMDB what the fuck is IMBD?
IMDB what the fuck is IMBD?
Internet Movie Database. http://www.imdb.com/
I use both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes
IMDB what the fuck is IMBD?
i pity people who care about stuff like that
Rotten Tomatoes, but I often take their aggregate scores with a pinch of salt.
Metacritic. They don't say some reviewers are better than others, and simply say the average score, no more, no less. IMDB sucks because most people are idiots.
Rotten tomatoes, but mainly because I find their iPhone app the easiest to use and I don't have time to check it on my PC when i'm at home.
A combination of metacritic and rottentomatoes. A film can get positive reviews, but not very good positive reviews, hence the metacritic.
I decided I didn't like Rotten Tomatoes when I looked at their "Top Movies" and saw that hundreds upon hundreds of movies have a 100% score. It would have to be an absolutely extraordinary film to deserve that, and sorry, but Toy Story 2 just doesn't cut it.
I like IMDB because I'm a complete movie nerd and I love to check out trivia and goofs and stuff like that.
IMDB is great for information on movies but I don't care for the reviews because like spooks said, people are idiots. You might get a few well written reviews, but most of the time it's poorly written junk by a pre-teen who's never seen a movie made before 1991.
Rottentomatoes has better ratings, IMDB has better trivia, and Wikipedia has better information on the plot.
and don't get me started on the forums. i swear half the threads on each movie is, "why do people like this movie? this completely unrelated movie is way better"
Rottentomatoes for me. Ratings tend to be more fair in my opinion.
Metacritic. They don't say some reviewers are better than others, and simply say the average score, no more, no less. IMDB sucks because most people are idiots.
metacritic gives numbers to reviews that don't have numbers in the first place
well it's a logical system, like 4/5 stars = 80%
IMDB is kind of dead to me now, because I checked their top 250, watched a good few, and while a lot were good, most of them sucked, and very few deserved the ranks they got.
I just stick with Rotten Tomatoes. Nice percentage readout (which I take lightly, at times) with good reviews. Haven't checked past that, though. However, Inception's ranked 6th, and I know a lot of films that were better than Inception.
well it's a logical system, like 4/5 stars = 80%
no. i don't mean converting stars to percent, i mean giving reviews a numeric value when the review had no numeric value in the first place.
the people on IMDB's forums are retards. rottentomatoes gives somewhat fair reviews. personally, i prefer the nostalgia critic, and his array of characters.
I always look at rottentomatoes. I never decide if I will see a movie based solely on the rating though.
IMDB Trivia, My god its so good
Nothing, reviews suck.
Nothing, reviews suck.
So how do you decide what you want to go see? Trailers are an even worse representation of the movie's quality.
I dont really have a preferred one, I like checking what their rating is on Rotten, though. Obviously I don't agree with every rating they do, but if they rate it below 40% , I'd say I agree with the site nearly all the time. Definitely a good place to go if you're deciding what to watch
Rotten Tomatoes for reviews TV tropes for everything else.
RottenTomatoes is alright, but sometimes they fuck up badly (they gave Gods and Generals 7%, what the hell?). I like IMDB.com the best, since they use community reviews with critic reviews to give you a more balanced ranking.
Metacritic, you get a good overview of all the reviews and give a generally reliable average score. Rotten Tomatos is just awful.
