I'll sum this up fairly quickly, my wonderful girlfriend is getting me a new headset, and, if needed, soundcard for my birthday in a few weeks. However, she knows very little about such things and, while I'm very good with building computers, I've never been very knowledgeable in the speakers/headsets department. So, rather than wasting my present on a crappy expensive headset, I figured I would ask those of you here who are much more knowledgeable than myself for some help.
My budget is around $75 to an absolute maximum of $100.
My current headset is this $30 model by Rosewill. To get an idea of what I think sounds "good," these are what I believe to be the best earbuds/portable attached-to-my-head-speakers I've ever owned, and I still use them to this day. I do not have a preferred brand or style, I just want whatever sounds the best for the price.
My specs are posted below, although the "PnP Sound Device" is the software installed with my current headset. I do not currently have an independent sound card, all other sounds are handled by the software based Realtek HD Audio manager.

So, what's my best bet within that price range, and is it worth taking some money from the headset for a ~$25 sound card?
Thanks in advance, and I apologize if this is the wrong section/not threadworthy.
Xonar DG/DX/DS
And for a headset? Don't consider it.
A pair of headphones and a Mic will be far better.

Not a bad idea at all, but in that case could you recommend a headphone/mic pair (within budget)?

Sadly not my area of expertise, ask around in the Headphone discussion thread

Thanks, unless anyone has a headphone to recommend, this thread can be closed
