Double Olympic champion Mo Farah has revealed he was detained by suspicious US Custom officials when trying to enter the country for Christmas.
Farah, who on Saturday was given a CBE in recognition of his golden year, even tried to produce his two medals from the London Games in an effort to prove he was not a security risk.
However, he was still questioned "on suspicion of being a terrorist" due to the fact he was born in Somalia.
“I couldn’t believe it," Farah told The Sun on Sunday. "Because of my Somali origin I get detained every time I come through US Customs.
"This time I even got my medals out to show who I am, but they wouldn’t have it.”
Farah was attempting to fly to Portland, Oregon, where he trains under the gaze of famous coach Alberto Salazar.
The 5,000m and 10,000m Olympic champion says it is not the first time he has encountered problems with US Customs, despite being one of the most famous athletes in the world.
"When we tried to get a residency visa, Nike obviously signed it all off and we thought it was going to be straightforward," he said of a previous incident.
“We were in Portland on a tourist visa so had to leave and re-enter the country as a resident. So we flew to Toronto to stay for a few days, then come back in.
“But when we were there we got a letter telling us we’re under investigation as a terrorist threat and we would have to stay away for 90 days."
Jesus, that's insulting.
Mo Farah is a fucking legend.
'However, he was still questioned "on suspicion of being a terrorist" due to the fact he was born in Somalia.'
wow what the fuck...
America, where the customs are terrorizing more people than the terrorists.

They shouldn't let people pass just because they got a big name or produce medals. Anyone can reproduce medals and make up any name. They actually did their job and it is pretty weird that out of the blue they told him he was under investigation. Maybe they know something we don't.
Never heard of him...

Britains 10,000m and 5,000m gold medal winner this year
People are being tossers now.
If I were a US Official I'd just let him through as he's really innocent.

he's not innocent, he's guilty on crimes he has not committed yet!

I'm pretty sure the point of prevention is to stop terrorists before they do something bad, not wait until they've done it and then arrest them.
He wasn't even accused of anything so I don't know what you're on about.
facepunch: complain when celebrities are given 'get out of jail free' cards, complain when celebrities are treated like everyone else
facepunch: complain when celebrities are given 'get out of jail free' cards, complain when celebrities are treated like everyone else
This guy isn't being treated like everyone else, he is being treated like a terrorist because he is from Somalia.
So, let me get this straight. These people detained a Gold-Medal winner because they were a bunch of bigoted assholes?

The problem is not the fact that he didn't get special treatment because he is a celebrity, the problem is he got a "special" treatment because he was born in Somalia. I would be outraged if this happened to anyone, not just him.

If I fly to the US, I sure as hell won't be wanting/tolerating this.
Somalians cant get a break they resort to piratism because they have zero goats then they can't fly to america.

Love how someone is always saying something like this
USA is promoted to subhuman idiot imperialist filthy faggot terrorist invalid scum
I've had my suspicions. This confirms all.

The TSA gets millions of dollars for doing what basically amounts to racial profiling. And yet we're still in a financial shit-hole somehow. I don't care if he's an Olympian or a guy looking to get out of Somalia, this should not be tolerated.
You'd think that since he had a visa there wouldn't be issues.
Do they not even trust their own system? Seems like it.

well shit, if everyone on FP worked for the TSA there'd be no money left.

Customs. Not TSA. And they are not the same thing. TSA does security checks on baggage and shit before entering the main terminal in US airports. US Customs checks immigration status on international flights, either after they land, or in some foreign airports before boarding. Canada might have US Customs preclearance on international flights to the US. I know Edmonton does, I'm not sure about the rest.

They weren't "terror officials" they were X-Files.
Question everything.

Yes but not many of people who can do that can present a legitimate British passport.
Its racial profiling pure and simple.
why is the source article gone?
