I was just finishing up a computer build of mines and I need some speakers (and sub) under $50. Any suggestions guys?
I don't think there's anything "good" for this budget. Perhaps you wanna buy some good headphones instead.
Get one of those ugly little usb speakers
With a budget of $50, get headphones.

You won't get anything above a 2.1 set with that budget, and this is sub-par.
Headphones are superior any ways, I still don't get why anyone would want to use speakers as a primary sound source on a PC. I suggest JVC HS-RX700

..the fuck?
what do you do when friends are over, do you never listen to music in another room, and if they're noise insulated how do you live without hearing anything outside the computer?
Headphones can be tiring to use, if he wants speakers then they aren't useless.
Microlab makes some good low-range speakers, just look through your favourite retailers stocks. Logitech is a great brand too, neither have led me off with their products before.
Maybe headphones are nice, but I don't like big gizmos on my head when trying to play a game. Plus I like the vibrations from sub-woofers.
save up $20 more and get this:

i have the last gen version and the speakers are average but the subwoofer is top quality, and LOUD depending on the audio source

He said Primary, not only. I use headphones all the time, but I do still have integrated speakers in my monitor for the reasons you mentioned.
