German satirical TV shows seem to be in the crosshairs of many people these days, in particular outside the country. Jan Böhmermann raised hackles in Turkey with a lewd poem - here's a spoof that angered Austrians.
Norbert Hofer of Austria's anti-immigrant, far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ) won over a third of the votes in a first round of the presidential election on Sunday, and faces a run-off next month.
"What's your problem, dear neighbors?" the caption reads. The text in the photo adds "Austrians like to vote for what resembles their schnitzel: as flat and brown as possible."
The very same prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation into German TV presenter Jan Böhmermann after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan requested the comedian be prosecuted for allegedly defaming him in a "smear poem."
This is like the most german fucking thing ever. OP what is a schnitzel, and what is the significance of it being flat and brown?
This is like the most german fucking thing ever. OP what is a schnitzel, and what is the significance of it being flat and brown?
Schnitzel is a very common dish in Germany, Austria and Switzerland(?). It's basically flat beaten meat covered in breading. Also Schnitzel aren't swastika shaped, that's just photoshopped.
The word "flat" (flach in german) in this context means on a very low level.
Schnitzels are brown, and brown is also considered as the color of the Nazis, like red is considered as the color of socialists and communists.
So he's basically comparing the political atmosphere in Austria to a Schnitzel, flat (low level) and brown (extremely right wing).

It's basically a fried steak, which has been tenderized very thoroughly before coating in seasoning.
Add veal, venison, or some other gamey meat and it's worth being called a Nazi for life. In speaking of all of this, everyone excuse me while I got get some thin steaks from the store, I crave schnitzel now.
Schnitzel is fucking delicious, I would like to add.

Its basically just cordon bleu without the cheese
Its basically just cordon bleu without the cheese
Isn't that like half of it though? The cheese adds so much.
Ironic that they're calling Austrians nazis for voting for FPÖ when the AfD made huge gains in Germany just recently

Well yeah, they also insulted AfD-voters before (incest, dumb, etc.). The best thing? Every household pays 17€ a month for it. We have to, else we get fined.
That's the reason for why they keep insulting large parts of countries populations, they have nothing to lose, they don't depend on viewers or advertisements.

You can pretty much make it with any kind of meat really, best with veal but chicken/turkey is also surprisingly nice.
OP what is a schnitzel
The schnitzel is one of the reasons why you should never stop eating meat.

Technically you just coat it in bread.

Of course people like you feel insulted by their satire.
It's satire dude.
They don't insult anyone. If you feel insulted you should really start reflecting.
Also the 17€ brings you some really quality programs, DLF, DLF Kultur, MDR Figaro.
And especially Arte, which is probably the smartest TV channel on the whole planet and the only one that is financed and done by two countries in cooperation.
You should watch those some more if you think it's not worth it.
ZDF were the first ones to Air the Simpsons btw.

"People like you"
Satire can and is also used to insult people, especially when it's done in a bad way (like it's often the case with them). The "what's your problem, dear neighbour" doesn't help.
There's satire and then there's simply insulting people.
I never said it's not worth it or even mentioned anything close to it, but FORCING people to pay, even if they don't own a single device that could receive their programmes, is just bullshit and you are most likely lying, if you say it's not.
I love ordering a Wiener Schnitzel and getting a slab of delicious flat, breaded meat that's so large it doesn't fit on the plate. In Bavaria and Austria you tend to have a lot of small family restaurants in the mountains that specialize in schnitzel dishes.

they are constantly making fun of bigoted refugee critics and AFD sympathisers and you showed to be both that's why I said people like you since you so far have to show any form of humour about yourself
if you really think "you vote like you like your swastika schnitzel" is an insult rather than arguably pretty simplistic satire then I am more right than I ever thought
