Case is shit, graphics are shit, psu is shit, processor is pretty slow too.
Build your own.
8 series quads are arse. for that price range you'll be looking at a Phenom II quad.
yes by a landslide but I am at work so i will do it when I get off
JE, stop posting that you'll do it eventually. I'm starting on it now. Shooting for $550. done: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=7778009

just get what I posted and drop the video card
I forgot to mention in the OP that small form factor is (very) important too. All these builds are good but are large form factors. Not sure about the centurion 590, newegg gives no dimensions. No need for a powerhouse video card, just one that can play good multi media and run on windows 7/Vista. Also, I did some more searching on my own and found http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.259574.13-121-381 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.254185 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147134 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118017 Comes to 453 rounded up and is ITX. Still has the X4500 but as long as it can perform multimedia tasks well and run eye candy (perhaps) then it should suffice. I looked at a similar build with AMD and found that the CPUs are less expensive but the ITX motherboards are more expensive (99.99 for the lowest end zotac one. I'm not so sure about zotac so I'd like to be on the safe side and go 1 up.) So the price was 160(intel mobo + e6300) versus 160(AMD Athlon II X2 240 with zotac). The AMD processor has slightly less performance than the intel CPU so I thought this would be a pretty good deal seeing how I was looking for a compact build. Anyway, is there a better AMD version out there that's ITX? edit: Hmmm, maybe I'll look at barebones.
Heres the thing. If you are looking for the smallest computer possible, you might as well forget about any intense gaming.
I don't know, some of the slim video cards are pretty decent.
I've said in one or two posts that this computer would be used for Multimedia purposes, not gaming purposes. Check list of things that the computer is supposed to do: * Fast Virus Scans * Fast Compression * Fast video Encoding * Smooth Video Decoding * Able to (perhaps) run eye candy of vista/7 * A few other things that I can't remember Only games that will be run on the box are solitaire, minesweeper and those other windows games. And small is extremely important. The Gateway's case is really pushing it. 4.2" on the width is pushing it a little. I think I will go with my build. While the performance might not be as good the case is considerably smaller and the quality is not so questionable. While AMD is normally better for low end and (a fair amount of) midrange computers this is one of the exceptions.
then don't get a atom or core solo get what I posted drop the GPU case and psu and get this case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129046 [editline]10:52PM[/editline] http://www.anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?b=2 use this to compar CPU's
I plan to get a pentuim dual core e6300 which beats the Athlon II X2 250 (and presumably the Athlon II X2 240) according to the site JohnEdwards provided (Very useful, thank you very much) and an HTPC CPU cooler (< 1 in. high) which I didn't include in the shopping list.
http://anandtech.com/bench/default.aspx?p=96&p2=94 Not really. E6300 beats the 250 at somethings and the 250 beats it at other things. They are fairly even. With the E6300 I say having a very slight edge over the 250.
just get the amd for the Mobo
