The PSP2 is finally here. Sony revealed its brand new PlayStation Portable at an event in Tokyo today, giving us our first official look at the PlayStation maker's next bold foray into handheld gaming, the "Next Generation Portable." Here are the first details.
Sony confirmed many of the features of the PSP2 that we've already heard in the form of leaks, rumor and speculation. The PSP2 features a high-resolution, touch-sensitive OLED screen that's larger than the original PSP screen, tilt-sensitive SIXAXIS controls, dual analog sticks, front and back-facing cameras, and a touch sensitive back panel.
Sony boasts that the new PlayStation Portable is as powerful as a PlayStation 3. The device features built-in WiFi and 3G wireless connectivity and uses an all-new form of media storage for games—no more UMD.
For now, Sony is officially calling the new PlayStation Portable by its codename, Next Generation Portable or NGP. It will be out this holiday in Japan.

Watching the live stream now, finally 2 thumb-pads.
Sony doesn't get it... seriously.
It looks so ugly
The specs look awesome but where's the form factor.
As Powerful as the PS3 they say? I doubt it when the resolution is just below that of the iPhone 4's, which is only a 3.5inch screen. NUMBERS SONY
So, does it still use UMDs or what?
Nevermind, it uses New Game Media.
Edit: Crap, I accidently rated myself agree.
It looks the same as the first one.
The screen is 5 inches and it's an OLED screen
sexy
I see they finally wised up and went to cartridges like nintendo
Does it use cartridges or something? Also does anyone have LBP screenshots? Can't watch the stream.
WOW CARTRIDGES SUCH A NEW AND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY HOLY MOTHER OF SHIT
fail handheld please die just because you have good specs doesn't mean you get good games or good third party support

It is powerful enough to make games look like PS3 games on a smaller screen.
Looks just like the old PSP. Should've redesigned it.

being Nintendo
Well, color me disappointed
If i am going to buy a handheld why sony should i buy this instead of the 3ds ?... it's just the same as PSP but with a touchscreen on the back ?
Nice to know they kept the familiar hand-crippling shape.
I can no longer bend my index fingers because I am a PSP owner.

Touch screen, tilt sensor, cameras
Nothing new, really. Just a modernized PSP.

if you like overpriced hardware that has random tech that doesn't make sense to be put onto a handheld on your handheld, coupled with overpriced games then the NGP IS FOR U
Not looking forward to hearing the price and battery life of the thing

Exactly i'd much rather have a 3ds even if it's abit of a gimic with the 3d but i like that you don't have to wear glasses a new Zelda, New Paper mario and, FUCKING STARFOX 64OUUUURRRRR.

Does Nintendo pay you or something? You sound like a bad troll from 4chan's /v/.
It comes down to preference of games, I don't think the 3DS is any better or worse than the PSP2 and it comes down to whose product you prefer. No reason to get so angst because a company is competing with your product of choice, you haven't even given the PSP2 a chance, you're just getting upset over the first details.
Are there any information on the internal system specs such as CPU clock speed and amount of RAM and such?

Well yeah, they both seem like great handhelds that aren't really lacking in anything. Ultimately you'd want to get both. I think for me I'll get a 3DS first, and once the new PSP's price drops a bit (I'm sure it won't be that cheap on launch) I'll pick that up. Right now Sony hasn't really announced many games I'd want, but it comes with time.

It doesn't look like they've announced it yet, but I'll keep checking various sites to fix up the OP with more information.
Looks like the old PSP except with the addition of that one bit that should've been there the first fucking time
I wish the analog sticks were indented. What is it with Sony and making everything convexed?
I might acutaly buy one of these they look awsome. But for 3G or Wifi in general to work they need to improve their brower over the one the PSP1 had.
