What are AP Exams? AP, or Advanced Placement, is a program by College Board where classes taken in high school (US + Canada only) can qualify you for credit-hours in colleges. These classes are much more rigorous than regular high school classes. To qualify for credit-hours, you must take the AP exam and get a certain grade on it (ranges from 1-5, 1 being the lowest). Qualifying for credit-hours depends on the college you're applying to. College Board also does the SAT, which is offered throughout the year. As well as a test similar to the ACT, they offer subject tests that test your knowledge of specific subjects. Some colleges require that you have some subject tests before applying with your main SAT composite score. What AP exams are you taking? I'm taking Macro/Microeconomics, Chemistry, English Language, and US History. I'm also taking the SAT Subject test in Chemistry on Saturday.
I remember having Bio and both physics c exams on the same day. 6 hours of testing was not that fun.
This year I'll have Lang and World History. And also the SAT in between. Yay
Taking AP Government and World History
Physics B for me.
Next year I'll be in AP US History. I keep being told it's a pain in the ass. Is it worth it?

Senior year, 5 tests: Both physics Cs, Calc BC, Spanish, and Euro. I took Stats, Psychology, US History, and English already. This is gonna be hard but really worth it. For the 89$ you pay for the test you're saving potential thousands of tuition.
I'd say it's worth it, I came into college with a sophomore status.
I feel like a whimp. I'm only taking AP US Government, Macroeconomics, and Statistics for my senior year.
You can also definitely self-study for tests like Psych, Stats, or Human Geo
I did abysmally with regular classes, I would have done a hell of a lot worse with AP classes.
physics b and english lit and comp last year sucked, us history i got a 2 chemistry i got a 1 english lang and comp i got a 3 that was okay i guess
I was consistently ranked in the top 5 for my high school and never took AP classes because many of them weren't relevant for my prospective major, and also because my counselor is a lazy moron that just auto-assigned classes without asking what I wanted to take. I feel slightly deprived as a result, but c'est la vie. Oh, I actually took AP Stats last year but my teacher was super bad about everything and had us review the entire course 2 days before the test time, so I decided not to take it. SAT wise, I got a total score of 2010 which is okay I guess.
world history on the 16th.
SAT wise, I got a total score of 2010 which is okay I guess.
sorry, but when i see people say stuff like getting 2000+ on the SAT is "okay", it kinda sounds a bit elitist. nothing against you or anything, it's just that I've just seen enough of that while i was browsing college confidential
Didn't do any AP classes, but I do have IB exams coming up. English HL on thursday and friday History HL next week Bio HL in two weeks French SL in three weeks

I did fantastic on the SAT (2130) and I got rejected from all of my top schools. Still gonna go to a really nice place on a scholarship, but still have a bad taste in my mouth after trying so hard to get into a dream school and getting rejected while I see people who aren't any better than me really get in. EDIT: So yeah, in short; I'm a spoiled child.
Senior, have AP Chem, Calculus AB, English Language, and US Government to take. Last year took Physics B, English Literature, and US History. Got 5's on each. Took the SAT once, got 2070. Took the ACT once, got 34 (out of 36). Can't remember my SAT Subject Test scores off the top of my head, but I took Physics, US History, and Math 2. I know I had difficulties with Physics and US History because I took them earlier in my senior year when I had the classes junior year. The colleges I applied to wanted at least 2 subject tests, so I took 3. I don't recommend it - the classroom emptied out after the first test and by the time the third came along there were 2 students left in the room, including me. There's still a handful of people at my school that did better than me. I really think that the history/social science tests are the easiest. The essays don't really need to be well written as long as you can answer them adequately. English tests can be hit or miss - the essays are really draining and my advice is just to make sure you focus on reading comprehension for multiple choice, because unless you're a great writer and come up with some great ideas for the essays on the spot, you're probably going to write some formulaic crap essay that is hopefully good enough. That's my experience, at least. Science tests (or at least Physics B and Chemistry) allow you to get a lot wrong and still get a 5; a 5 is somewhere around 60% correct. Don't expect to get everything right on the free response. There were some questions where I had no idea how to come at the problem, so I wrote down some stuff just to try to eke out a point or two.
I'm taking the SAT as a Canadian next Saturday and I'm kind of worried. I always considered myself pretty intelligent, then I go and take a practice SAT (no preparation or knowing anything about it to judge where I stand) and only score a 1600 first try for my practice.. which worries me I hope I can at least boost it up to a 18-1900 before I write it.. I'm not sure if I have enough time. It was just kind of a downer getting that low of a score, although unofficial

EDIT: So yeah, in short; I'm a spoiled child.
SATs REALLY don't indicate anything about someone's personal intelligence at all, and it's also culturally biased towards the "average" test-taker, which is most likely going to be the white, middle-class American. The college process is also VERY arbitrary, and there are not enough spots at all the top universities to accept all of the 4.0, 2400 students. Race, gender, extracurriculars, legacy, essays, etc etc all play a part in the process, and the most important factor BY FAR is your parents' income. So my point is, don't feel too bad about rejection, and also don't be that guy who thinks they're objectively better than someone else.
Senior here taking Physics B, Psychology, Statistics, Microeconomics, and Government. I got a 3 on Human Geography my freshman year, and last year I got a 5 in Music Theory, 3 in Chemistry, and 2 in Calculus AB. I'm pretty confident in passing Psychology and Microeconomics, but the rest will be really close.
Government and Computer Science here. Government's gonna be hard, especially with my slacking off as of recently :v:, but I think I got a handle on Computer Science.
The only thing you need to worry about is deciphering College Board's crappy code
Taking only AP World History this year. That's the only AP class at my high school that is offered to sophomores.
Taking only AP World History this year. That's the only AP class at my high school that is offered to sophomores.
That really sucks, as a sophmore you should be able to take more.
On the topic of how important different things are to getting into college, it really is mostly GPA and extra curriculars. I got a 5 on the Calc AB and Computer Science AP tests, 3 on English Language and Physics C:Mechanics (E&M isn't offered at my school), am taking Calc BC, English Literature, Micro and Macro Economics, and Stats AP exams this year, and did pretty damn well on the SAT and ACT. But I get pretty consistent B's, so my unweighted High School GPA is like 3.2 and I have very few extra curriculars, plus I suck at answering those bullshit essay questions on applications, so I got rejected from my top schools, including University of Michigan and Georgia Tech. Point is, if you're aiming for a really good school, don't sweat exams too much; they're definitely a factor, but doing shit outside of school and grades are far more important.
World History this year. My teacher's tests have been really hard on us, and I'm going to have to do some serious review before the test. I'm planning on taking Macroeconomics, English and Environmental Sciences next year.
AP Literature, oh boy Been getting 7's and 8's on the practice essays we've been doing, and 35-40/55 on some of the MP practices. Let's see what happens
got a 35 on the ACTs last year
