It comes after Pass was spotted overnight on a hardware bundle packaging for the Insomniac shooter. Sony says that the program will “accelerate” its commitment to enhancing premium online services” in its first-party line-up. The program is akin to that of EA’s Project Ten Dollar, as well as other publisher initiatives. You merely enter a code you get with the game to get access to the full multiplayer service. Sony is keen to stress the new program is “game-specific.” “We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities,” a SCEE statement reads. “This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title. “This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.” It’s not the first time Sony has done something like. It did something similar with the PSP releases of SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 and ModNation Racers. Resistance 3 launches on September 6 in the US and September 9 in the UK for PS3.
There goes my PS3.
How is this supposed to increase "quality" of, and "enhance" the online services?
Looks like they're trying to combat used game sales. A few games already do this and people can't seem to complain. But I still don't like the idea of it.
Jesus christ no. I don't want to pay for another game system for online games.
Systems like these cost money to run and because Sony is offering free online, they have to find other ways to get the money to run the system.
If it works, good on them. I just hope that will work for all the accounts on a single console. Otherwise I foresee fans having unpleasant encounters with shit.
Systems like these cost money to run and because Sony is offering free online, they have to find other ways to get the money to run the system.
And licensing fees on third party games isn't doing it?
Why?
"Haha I don't have to pay to pay my games online" Well now that that's gone you don't have much left do ya?
If a game is $60 new, and I buy it for $55 used, but THEN I have to pay $10 for the online access, it costs more than the cost of the full game new. This is shit!
-snip-
Did anyone read it? It's not like you have to pay to play the thing. If you just buy it used you have to do what EA does and buy a pass for like ten dollars. Not that big of a deal unless you're like renting it.
Welp, theres goes any saving you can get buying games used, and so much for trading games between friends aswell.
I thought project ten dollar was dumb as shit, this isn't any better really.
No, I'm serious. This is worse than BLEKC OPSH 3L4T3.
I don't buy used games or even play much online at all so I don't give a shit. I mean obviously this is better than monthly fees.
360 fanboy detected
Your detectors broke. My 360's been in my closet for quite some time. I just think it's funny how many ps3 fanboys say that and now it's gone.
Good.
I don't see why people are angry about this, this is perfectly reasonable.
There are cosmetics in Uncharted 3's multiplayer.
Don't forget Home. Shit's expensive in there.
Guys, im pretty sure that the pass will be included in new copys of the game, its just when you rent it/ buy it used you need to buy a online pass

If you buy it used, you have to buy a single use registration code to be able to play online. This has nothing to do with a monthly charge.
The last games I'm paying full price for are BF3, Skyrim and Guild Wars 2, I don't think I can afford or even want to spend £40/$65 on games anymore.
Doesn't sound too bad, sounds like CD keys.
Mortal Kombat did this.
So I cant sell Resistance if it sucks and my brother cant play online? Well done Sony, well done.
I don't understand this fully, PS3 users will have to put in a serial code to play a game, similar to PC and Steam? Can someone elaborate?
EA and many retail PC games do this already, what makes Sony so special?
