• i7 930 Temperature

So several years ago I bought an Alienware since I did not know much about gaming rigs at the time. Had no clue that building it would be much better. It came with an i7 930 2.8GHz as well as liquid cooling. As time progressed, I learned a lot more about computers and started getting into overclocking and what not. Right now the processor is at 3.4 GHz. The idle temperature is around 50C. When it's at full load, the temperature soars up around 80C. An idle temperature seems quite high to me considering that my friend had an i7 930 on stock cooling at about 20C. I do live in Kansas (very hot here) and not much air flow gets to my room. Right now I have a giant fan pushing air into the airflow and it put the idle down to about 30C. Don't feel like trying to push it to full load with those kind of temperatures any more. Is this normal for where I live and the type of processor it is or should I be trying to fix this issue? This is with the giant fan blowing on it. Lower the clock speed or get water cooling.
Lower the clock speed or get water cooling.
I guess I should have mentioned that I got almost the same exact temperatures when it was at default clock speed. Only a few degrees cooler. Made no sense to me so I just clocked it up and went for performance since I didn't see much change in the temperature. Was already high anyways.
You still need to get some sort of new cooling system
You still need to get some sort of new cooling system
Guess Ill give that a shot. Getting an XFX 7970 soon. Will probably get new cooling along with that. Any suggestions?

People overclock their PC up to 4.5 Ghz with them and still having acceptable temperatures.
