[release]The UK is to expel all Iranian diplomats following the storming of its embassy in Tehran, Foreign Secretary William Hague has announced. He said he had ordered the immediate closure of the Iranian embassy in London. Tuesday's attack by hundreds of protesters followed Britain's decision to impose further sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme. The sanctions led to Iran's parliament reducing diplomatic ties with the UK. Mr Hague said he was demanding the immediate closure of the Iranian embassy in London, with all its staff to leave the UK within 48 hours. "If any country makes it impossible for us to operate on their soil they cannot expect to have a functioning embassy here," Mr Hague told MPs. He said there had been "some degree of regime consent" in the attacks on the embassy and on another UK diplomatic compound in Tehran. He said all UK diplomatic staff in Tehran had been evacuated and the embassy closed. Mr Hague said relations between the UK and Iran were now at their lowest level, but the UK was not severing relations with Tehran entirely. Hundreds of protesters - whom Iran described as "students" - massed outside the embassy compound on Tuesday afternoon before scaling the walls and the gates, burning British flags and a car. Another UK diplomatic compound in northern Tehran, known locally as Qolhak Garden, was also overrun and damaged. Iran said it regretted the incident, which it described as "unacceptable behaviour by a small number of protesters".[/release] http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15966628 Snap. Overreaction or proper act? Should the diplomats be thrown out just because protesters stormed the embassy?
I don't know what to think about this anymore. I have no clue on what side to stand on at all. (someone please tell me what to do)
Not good, not good!
I'd say it's an overreaction, unless the "collusion" they're referring to is the fact that it would seem the Iranian police/security forces didn't do their job in protecting the UK Embassy and other compound that were attacked, which they would actually be obligated to do.
Isn't the UK buying Iran's oil in euros anyway? Pffft. This doesn't mean shit.
Reasonable response by the British government in my opinion. This seems to be the way the UK has responded to other embassies being attacked. For stability in the region etc, probably not the best move.
Saw it comin' this way.
Not really an overeaction but still a bad move. Still the government does have a valid reason to pull out, I was under the assumption that if anything bad happens to an embassy, it was pretty much the end of diplomatic ties.
How is this going to make anything better? Its basically doing the same thing the protesters did in Iran but in a civil way.
How is this going to make anything better? Its basically doing the same thing the protesters did in Iran but in a civil way.
One is the breach of the Vienna convention, the other is (almost) severing diplomatic ties. Not quite the same thing.
Think about it kind of like this. You and someone you know each have a parking spot at each others house because for him its closer to his work and for you its closer to his work. Now say you find out his family keyed the hell out of your car smashed the windows tore up the inside and expected you to keep guarding his car and making sure it does not get damaged. What would you do? I hate to stereo type or make claims like this but this is what the world is doing to America/Uk/Europe. We do something and get punished harshly and beat up for it. While they do something and we cannot do anything about it. Example: In Uk how certain sections of towns or neighborhoods are illegally enforced with sharia law. So when they do this to UK citizens its kind of overlooked due to tension. Yet when a single person in the UK says something racy or draws a picture of Mohammad they freak out burn his building and expect no retaliation.
I thought Iran apologized, or is the UK just being a dick.
Well what did they expect would happen? Flowers and Candy? After openly threatening about invading Iran of course the folks there are going to get pissed.
Jesus christ there's going to be another war i can see it coming.
Jesus christ there's going to be another war i can see it coming.
Well it's a good thing we picked a fight with a totally harmless country that doesn't have any nukes.
Considering the UK thinks Iran should've protected the embassy better i don't think they are over reacting .
I'm glad they're being expelled. Less chance they'll be injured/killed and cause a fuckin' war. Then again, the US has a tendency to fight the people rather than the government if you ask me. Iranians love America. Seriously, we have all kinds of "wannabes". From the douchebag who looks like he fell straight out of New Jersey, to the hipster with thick rimmed glasses and tight pants. :v: All of this in a country which is located in the middle-east.
I thought Iran apologized, or is the UK just being a dick.
It's kind of a dick move, though I can see why it's being done.
I would like to not be drafted within the next five years please :downs:
I would like to not be drafted within the next five years please :downs:
My dad can't get drafted, he's been clinically insane.
If the Iranians obtain nuclear weapons our countries economies will breath a sigh of relief.
Good, next move should be to cut off all ties with iran, see if they learn. I get the feeling they wont, and that they will provoke Britain, Israel, and the U.S into destroying them.

I am starting to think that the UK embassy attack is a staged plot paid by the UK government to the students in order to get justification of the US and UK to go to war with Iran

Because if Great Britian declares war on Iran, take a guess who has been needing an excuse to move in. I doubt the commanders would like it, but the GOP would love it.
I would like to not be drafted within the next five years please :downs:
We don't have the draft?
I can't believe some people genuinley think this was a genuine iranian protest by the people. It was orchestrated by iran. EDIT: If somebody wants to prove me wrong go ahead. I don't see the justification with all the dumb ratings.
