All the news articles I can find are focused on just individual provisions of this bill, so here's a load of sources... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12419023 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12433116 http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/2011/feb/11/criminal-checks-eased-freedom-bill http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8317173/People-get-power-to-take-CCTV-abusers-to-court.html http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbill/2010-2011/0146/2011146.pdf ... and I'll write my own OP. Basically, the "Protection of Freedoms Bill" will mean that:

The DNA profiles of people arrested but later released without charge will no longer be indefinitely stored.
Terrorism suspects can only be held without charge for 14 days, down from 28.
CCTV will be regulated, to prevent the infringement of privacy, and local authorities accused of abusing CCTV can be taken to court.
Fewer people will have to go undergo criminal record checks before being allowed to work with children.
The application of anti-terrorism legislation will be regulated to protect the privacy of the general public.
Wheel clamping on private land will be banned.
People who were convicted of homosexuality before 1967 when it was illegal may apply to have the conviction wiped from their record.
The prosecution in a serious fraud case may no longer apply to have the case conducted without a jury.
The official Home Office summary is available here. Notably, this is the first major Liberal Democrat policy we've seen come out of the coalition government, which has so far been dominated by Conservative policies such as the tuition fees rise.
doesn't go nearly far enough but it's a start i suppose.
People who were convicted of homosexuality before 1967 when it was illegal may apply to have the conviction wiped from their record.\
Wow, what the shit?
snip, already on there [editline]11th February 2011[/editline]
Wow, what the shit?
Yeah, a lot of gay men have (had) criminal records for having gay sex which meant they could hardly get any jobs. [editline]11th February 2011[/editline] ID cards are also getting scrapped: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/id-cards-go-up-in-flames-in-first-step-to-tackle-database-state-2209936.html
Wow, finally that idiotic private clamping law is being scrapped. They've been talking about it on and off on the news since it started, it's just too easily abused. Keep clamping to the police and the public service.
I love the Conservatives. Fuck Labour socialism.
I love the Conservatives. Fuck Labour socialism.
ummmmmmmmmm this has nothing to do with the conservatives and ALL the big political parties in the uk are socialist
I love the Conservatives. Fuck Labour socialism.
I also would like to voice my concern about [thing that has nothing to do with the article but will get a rise out of people]
I love the Conservatives. Fuck Labour socialism.
These are Lib Dem policies.
Semi related: I've heard the conservatives may be bringing back the means test for people who want to go on the dole, could this be possible?
I love the Conservatives. Fuck Labour socialism.
You do realise this was done by the Liberal Democrats right
You do realise this was done by the Liberal Democrats right
The Tories would of had some contribution to this, if any laws are to be passed, both parties would obviously have to agree on it. [editline]11th February 2011[/editline] They are a coalition government after all.
They are a coalition government after all.
though you can guarantee if the tories had won outright this wouldn't have gotten through at all
I agree with everything apart from the DNA thing - I'm not sure why we don't have a national DNA base with everyone on it, which would have multiple uses such as identifying possible suspects in a crime, identifying bodies, or even in paternity cases or similiar.
This is a good day
though you can guarantee if the tories had won outright this wouldn't have gotten through at all
Obviously!
I love the Conservatives. Fuck Labour socialism.
yeah those labour socialist pinko liberal would-be-commies hate freedoms
that's all and well but fucking remove the ban on house music for fucks sake
that's all and well but fucking remove the ban on house music for fucks sake
Huh elaborate
Huh elaborate
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_Justice_and_Public_Order_Act_1994
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_Justice_and_Public_Order_Act_1994
Haha, what the fuck I'm reading through the things that bill does and 90% of it is horseshit and based in some kind of reality that isn't real
The UK saw us get rid of the Patriot act, and now they're trying to one-up us. :argh:
