Recently a fellow facepuncher made a thread about how he was scared of songs that when played backwards had other meanings. We all know this is a bit silly, but what does the rest of facepunch think?
The technique of called backmasking where a song which is meant to be played forwards plays hidden messages when played backwards. There seems to be two main types of backmasking, the first is where a message is recorded backwards and so sounds incomprehensible when played normally. An example of this is the pink floyd song 'empty spaces' where one part of the song is just meaningless noise when played normally but when played backwards it congratulates the listener on finding the hidden message. The other type of backmasking is where the song has a meaning when played both backwards and forwards. A famous example of this is the Led Zeppelin 'Stairway to Heaven' which when played forwards says 'If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, then don't be alarmed now, it's just a spring clean for the may queen. Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run you can change the path your on'. But when played backwards it says 'Oh here's to my sweet Satan. The one whose little path would make me sad, whose power is Satan. He will give those with him 666. There was a little tool shed where he made us suffer, sad Satan'. Led Zeppelin have denied putting these messages in their song, however more recently bands such as cradle of filth and Eminem have purposely put hidden messages in their songs.
There is little evidence to suggest that backmasking actually affects our sub conscience, after all how could it if the messages have to played backwards to be understood. So why do it? Are they just a type of Easter egg or can they actually carry hidden messages?

You can back mask and add lyrics backwards. A lot of the time though we do hear stuff by our self and in our heads though.

Not a song, but related.
I reverse song sometimes. But usually only to listen to backverb/reversed sounds as they should "normally" sound.
I have no life.
One of my first internet experiences was a Flash saying Britney Spears songs had a hidden backwards message.
It was a screamer :(
