Hi, the problem I have is minor but annyoing, my TV does support 1920x1080 resolution as prooved by my windows xp computer and my xbox 360 (both using VGA) but when i set my windows 7 computer to 1920x1080 my TV says it cannot support it, any ideas?
Check to see if it is changing any other settings, such as refresh rates, etc. Not sure what your hardware is, so that might help
Also, you might have more luck in tech help
What is there for me to check? The TV is a UMC and the computer is a custom built media center
Well like i said, refresh rate. I don't know if it would change randomly or what your TV could handle, but if your graphics card is putting out 75Hz and your TV only supports 60 then no image will pop up and it will say something like "Frequency out of range".
It's on 60 hertz but so's the other computer and my xbox, windows sees it as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor"
What are you using to connect it?
a VGA cable from my pc to a cable that allows me to switch from one input to another
What's your TV brand and model number?
Brand: UMC
Model Number: L216/17B-GB-TCDF-UK
You should probably connect it with a DVI -> HDMI adapter. Your TV may support 1080p, but not necessarily on the VGA port.
It does with VGA, that the wierd thing, my XP based computer can use my tv with 1920x1080 and so can my xbox...

Anyone?
First of all change your fucking avatar,
Make sure your using dual link dvi if your going in through hdmi/dvi connections (some tv's need it others dont) if your going in through dvi/hdmi make sure your graphics card supports the hdcp handshake so then the television doesn't think your trying to pirate movies (google it if not sure)
if you have an nvidia card like me the nvidia control panel can force resolutions regardless of the screen, give that a go, at 59hz, not 60.
Where is everyone getting HDMI and DVI when i cleary stated that i am using VGA?
I am using an onboard Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset

My Xbox and XP based PC both display 1920x1080 at 60hz but my Windows 7 based PC cannot as the TV says it's not supported
Does your xbox and pc connect via VGA?

why don't you just use DVI or HDMI

Most TV's doesn't support DVI, so you can't really blame him for that.

all of my TVs do, even both of my lower end Vizios

My parents have a sucky Olivia TV that only has VGA inputs and HDMI. But almost every modern video card(that I've seen) has HDMI or mini-HDMI outputs. I bought 8 different $10-$20 video cards from NewEgg through the Black Friday Weekend for my school and all of them had HDMI out, and my GTX 460 has mini-HDMI out, and every card I considered while building my computer has some form of HDMI out. There really is no reason not to use HDMI.

I've never seen a TV with DVI, but well, maybe I'm blind.
I'm having a problem where I have to open Catlayst Control Center everytime I start my computer because the resolution is underscaled.

Yes they do through a VGA switch cable and xbox's dond have DVI for those who ask.
Also saying to use a different cable type is beside the question, i guess no one knows why my windows 7 computer doesnt work with 1920x1080 on my tv but other things do ...

Can't believe nobody has suggested this, but did you try downloading new drivers for your video card?
Yes, thanks for a helpful post and not DVI/HDMI related

Wait so you're using onboard graphics and not an actual graphics card? And just to clear up another question I have, does your XP based PC have an actual graphics card?
Well, yes this PC uses onboard graphics and the XP on doesn't but this PC does work on other TV's at 1920x1080 so the onboard does support it. It is quiet unusual because i know the PC does supports 1920x1080 and so does my TV but togther it won't work

Our old Mitsubishi rear projection has DVI also, but doesn't have VGA. My Toshiba only has VGA and HDMI. Of course, its also a small TV.
Even so, if your TV has HDMI, it indirectly supports DVI, so your point still stands.
