A senior al-Qaeda operative identified as Saif al-Adel, who was reported to have briefly taken over the network's leadership after Osama bin Laden's death, has been arrested in Egypt, security officials say.
Al-Adel, who is on the FBI's most-wanted list with a reward of up to $5m for his capture, was detained at Cairo airport on Wednesday.
Officials said he had arrived on an Emirates Airline flight from Pakistan with a stop over in Dubai.
Security officials said al-Adel, a former Egyptian army officer born in 1963, was arrested after presenting a travel document at customs and taken into custody by the National Security apparatus.
The FBI said on its website that al-Adel "is thought to be affiliated with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ), and is believed to be a high-ranking member of the al-Qaeda organisation".
He was wanted since 1994 in connection with the August 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es-Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya.
Al-Adel was reported to have taken over the leadership of al-Qaeda before the appointment of another Egyptian, Bin Laden's longtime deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri.
An airport source speaking to Al Jazeera said al-Adel told reporters at the airport that he left al-Qaeda long time ago.
He travelled to Afghanistan in the 1980s to fight against the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He reportedly left the country after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US, and was later detained in Iran.
Do not kill him...
Trial him before anything is done to him.
So winners all around?

Yeah don't kill him, just sentence him to life in prison or execution, THEN kill him :v:

Yes, we should treat him like everyone else.
We need to be civilized about this.
Who knows who we could piss off if we just kill him or imprison him without trail.

Im pretty sure those people are going to be pissed off regardless.

I don't think that's the point. We have to show them that we are not like them (many would argue whether this statement true) by giving him a fair trial and not murdering him on the spot.

So just murder him in a fancy, slow way with lot's of bells and shiny whistles on it to somehow convince ourselves were not animals anymore.

Yes, but we'll have a better defense.
"Hey man, we treated him like everyone else!"

This too.
Whoa I wasn't saying we should kill him or anything. I was just saying the people who are going to get enraged by this are already so.
Yeah murder an alleged guy, who said he's not affiliated anymore.

"Oh yeah I blew up some people at a few embassies, but I don't do it anymore"
Seems pretty reckless to get caught by his documents at an airport. If he was such a threat I'd imagine he'd be more careful.

good for him
doesn't change anything, though
Why cant I ever find anyone on the most wanted list? I could use a cool 5 mil.
Not so saif after all, is he?

What police agency?
What is the chain of custody?
Who is a jury of his peers?
Who puts him on trial?
What prison facility will he be kept in?
What are his rights? Can he access his bank accounts to pay for a lawyer or is he provided with one?
Where do you find an impartial judge?
There is a reason we don't give foreign terrorists trials. WE CAN'T GIVE THEM TRIALS. Anything remotely resembling a trial would not only be a fake, but it would be a mockery of our entire justice system.

I've always thought the "be the better person" thing is kind of stupid when it comes to situations like these. Why not just kill his ass and throw his body into a crematorium.
Dont know if this has been posted or not but, this is not true. He isnt the leader.

That won't stop Seal Team Six from shooting him down during trial.
Doesn't matter if he's the leader or not, still a major blow to Al-goat humpers.

this. as soon as the jury, the judge, and everyone sees him it's fucking over. no trial. it's basically going to be those last 5 seconds of that one super bowl where they threw the ball even though they lost just to run out the clock.
