VGChartz: Official Pre-Order figures for PS4 and Xbox One in the US released
VGChartz has gathered the pre-order numbers for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The latest data is up to the week ending August 24, 2013. This includes the week of Gamescom, which set a record for biggest gaming trade show in Europe with more than 340,000 visitors. The pre-order numbers are for the US only and give an estimate how each console is doing about three months before release.
Up until the week ending August 24 the PlayStation 4 currently leads in the total number of pre-orders in the US with about 600,000. This is up significantly since E3 where there were only 75,000 pre-orders. The Xbox One is still lagging behind with 350,000 pre-orders. This is also way up since E3 where there were only 45,000 pre-orders.

Now this is just figures in the United States as of last week, but wow. Even with the Xbox One lagging behind, that's a lot of reserves for both consoles. Also pleasantly surprised to see a game like "Knack" with 40k reserves. "Titanfall" reserves are surprisingly low, but I imagine that's just because the game is out next year; here's hoping interest starts to swell for that one.
Well, dang. Wasn't the U.S. pretty much the only major market where the 360 had the lead over the PS3? I know PS3 had the lead in Europe, and 360 basically didn't exist in Japan at all. If they lose the U.S., they're fucked.
Unsurprising to see the Xbone with almost half the preorders as the PS4. Nobody tell ZachPL. He might cry. Or call you a liar.

I'm of the opinion that Microsoft is going to have an extremely rough launch with the Xbox One but that it will likely draw closer to the Playstation 4 once they get their system-seller exclusives (read: Halo) released.
Pretty much no question they're going to lose this holiday season though.

We'll see. Halo 4 has sold 8.47 million copies so far which is pretty impressive.

I'm really tried of people calling the xbox xbone, it isn't funny anymore and is stupid.
I've not really followed the whole next gen console war closely. I'm just waiting for official release and ill see what i like. But the whole fanboy wars is stupid, it was stupid back last console generation and it is stupid now.
Kinda crazy seeing ps4 with that number of preorders but i suspect a lot of people are going to wait it out and then just buy the consoles when they come out. PS4 has a pretty decent PR plan going too, their message has been pretty clear for the most part on what they want to get out of their console. Xbox has had a really rough PR response, but they're reversing a lot of stuff they where going to do due to the customer feedback.

stop reading it as x-bone then

Keep in mind all the parents who won't be aware of the launch issues the Xbone has had and will just pick it up without thinking for their kids at Christmas.

That's assuming there will be enough stock for that. Until Microsoft and Sony tell us what's going on, over at Gamestop we're telling customers to prepare to be unable to get the system until early next year. We're hoping it's not like the Wii U and Kinect where we were continually out of stock and we had to run all over the Northeast trying to get more systems to sell.

And I hardly consider myself a Sony or Nintendo Fan since I have a Wii but have only played like four or five games on it since I got it years ago, and only about eight games on the PS3 since I got it before even the Wii. Where as I've had a 360 since launch, Xbox before that with nearly 10 years as an Xbox Gold Member and hundreds of Xbox games stacked up around my home. I wouldn't blame someone for calling me an Xbox fan in the past. But my response to this generation should be pretty telling since I don't even want an Xbone, certainly not at launch or for a while.
Though I will say one of my favorite console games ever is a PS3 game (Yakuza 3).

Sony have been playing the console game longer anyway, I doubt the Xbox will die out any time soon like many consoles have in the past.
The Xbox one is a lost cause. A PR Disaster, that was.
I thought the word Xbone slipped from a 'hah xboner heh' word to the typical online word to reference to the Xbox One.
I mean we type the Playstation 4 as PS4, if you type Xbone everyone does know about what you are talking about.
Looking at those game preorders I really have no reason to get a next gen console. The only games that interest me are Titanfall, Watchdogs and Destiny. The first two are coming out on PC at launch (both having the PC as lead platform apparently) and Destiny might come out on PC too according to the devs.

I always call it Xbone, because Xbox One is too long and Xbox could mean anything and X1 could also mean the original Xbox and also looks stupid.

How many still go on berating the PS3 for "599$!"? It's way too early to call it a lost cause, and while 350000 isn't great by any means, it's not a complete disaster considering the extra $100 you give for the xbox one.
What it really needs is a price drop. I think there's a certain interest for kinect, and if the consoles are the same price and you "get a kinect as well!" I can really see it selling a lot. It's not like average people know about the differences in the internals anyway.

cry all you want but Microsoft gave it one of the dumbest names, so we'll call it xbone

I call the Xbone the Xbone because it's convenient.
but Microsoft gave it one of the dumbest names
Unlike 'PlayStation' which sounds like a playset for toddlers or 'Nintendo 64' which is literally the name of the company and the number of bits in the processor? I remember people making fun of the Xbox 360 because the name implies a full circle, winding up right where you started, not to mention the 'turn 360 degrees and walk away' jokes.
Game consoles have always had dumb names, they just become accepted over time.

They named the third xbox the xbox one
how does that even make sense in marketing
r.i.p. wii u
:(

The Wii U is going to do well when it gets games. Look at the 3DS selling gangbusters and it had a rocky start

Just wait until Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart 8 comes out. Talk about system sellers...
for whatever reason when i saw "pre-order figures" i thought the PS4 and Xbox One came with figurines if you pre-ordered them :v:

Are you mad at an acronym?

all-in-one
They named the third xbox the xbox one

It implies that it's an all-in-one unit intended for gaming, movies, casual entertainment, etc. It's one device that does everything, or so the marketing goes. It's not meant to be a sequential numbering any more than the Xbox 360 implied that it was the 360th iteration or the Nintendo 64 was the 64th. Nobody harps on the Nintendo 3DS because 'it's not really the third so the number is wrong'.
Many consoles have had dumb names for various reasons, and the Internet leads people to pile on the bandwagon while it's trendy to hate on the target of the day, before it gets accepted by the community at large. In a year it'll be a non-issue.
PS4 will have won the battle at launch by the war is far from over.
Xbone needs to drop the kinect and get down to $400. Its obviously way too late for that now since games in development require its use and to set them back now might create a delay at launch that they can't afford.
