The reason the Bible spoke so negatively of Sodom and Gomorrah was because of the way they acted to travelers, not because of sexual encounters of the same genders. Reason Christians go nuts about it is because in (I think) the book of Leviticus it literally says "man should not lay with another man as he would a woman" or something along those lines.

Leviticus gets ignored often due to how batshit some of the stuff is.
