In the next couple of months ill be getting my license, and eventually ill be getting a car. I've rounded it down to a civic. Are they good cars? Since my parents are buying it and they're being pretty generous, im able to get an 07-09 model in terms of pricing. They're pretty cheap for the year/kilometres, and dont look too bad either. I've heard insurance for Hondas is pretty expensive though (at least in Australia). Is it worth getting?
For a first car, i'd recommend you getting a small car. But Civics have nice engines they live long if you know how to take care of em. Get a fiesta or yaris.
Over here in the UK, the insurance is ridiculous for Honda Civics. Even the base models require a remortgage on your house to insure, particularly for younger drivers.
A Civic is probably going to be more for insurance, but probably the most reliable choice.
But if I was in Australia, and was young, and was getting a car bought for me, I already know what I would get.
But that's personal taste. I'm not sure what else is available in your area, I'm not too keen on Aussiewagens.
My civic is 400 dollars for about 3 months here in the United States.
It's MPG is awesome (for the states) at 35 mpg.
But, they don't go fast at all, don't be a racer. In fact. I recommend the 4 door variant. It's a bitch to see out the back of the coupe model and difficult to fit your friends in the back.

18 and I drive a 4.7 liter v8. :smug: That is in an suv though so it is a tad bit different.
When I was 16 my dad bought me a car with a 5.7l V8. :smug:
I was an idiot and traded it for a '91 Daytona with a blown 2.5l :smith:

Sort of funny since I live in the US. Here, a Honda Civic IS considered a small car. Of course, everything we drive is about the size of the Vatican so....
Well, the Civic upsized in recent years. It's not the little subcompact it used to be, that's for sure.

Oh, if your talking about the newer generation Civic, then yes its gotten pretty big.

1x Agree, but from what I've read about all the other Aussies posting in this section, in Australia when you get your license you're limited to base models and baby engines.
Or something like that.

When my parents first got my car they choose to get the 4.7 over the 5.9 because the 4.7 was a newer engine.

 that sucks. What was it in? Mine was an old, pre-metric chassis Cutlass.
My real first vehicle was a 1991 mitsubishi mighty max, with a 2.4l 4-cylinder. and by god, that thing would still do 90+. It also had gobs of torque. We sold it because i got my GMC :saddowns:
Mighty max pickups are fucking awesome. That and the Dodge D50, same truck though.

We're not allowed to drive:
V8s
Turbocharged or supercharged engines (except for things like the Suzuki Cappuccino)
Various other high performance cars (Such as the BMW M3)
Anything with any kind of performance modification
We're pretty screwed really if we want to drive a powerful car, the best you can get away with is something like a Falcon XR6 (non-turbo) or a Commodore. My Commodore has a 3.8L V6 and that's fine.
Man, that rules out all Monaro options in the V2/VZ range. :( Only option other than V8 is supercharged V6.
But yeah, I guess go for a Civic. It's the only thing I know they sell there that is worth a damn.

I like Australia but not their rules
:eng99:
Other than the obvious Pontiac rebadges, I wonder if there's a way to get a Holden into the states. I like a lot of their cars... Not a big ute fan but, man...
Another thing I like about the land down under is the abundance of R31's. hnnnnnnnnnnnnngh I'd rape a wrinkly testicle for one of those.

It's pretty annoying, but really, with petrol this expensive I wouldn't want to drive a V8 (at least as a daily driver, and I can't afford 2 cars anyway).

Don't be complaining to a Norwegian that your gas is expensive :byodood:
I have a civic. It's the best car I've ever owned. It's like a spaceship inside!
how many cars have you owned?
be a man and get a Subaru Impreza

You think that's just a light-up dash? Nah, that's your LAZER CANNON! Now you can blast other cars off the road! Wooooooo!
On a more related note: Most Japanese-made automobiles should be decent on insurance and easily maintainable. Toyota, Honda, Hyundai (Newer hyundais?) etc.

Which honestly isn't that bad, most parents won't be giving their kids an M3, or a Turbo Falcon.

Hyundai is Korean. If you're ever beside either a Japanese or Korean, don't ever get those mixed up. I mean, they won't hurt you. Maybe take your wallet or something, but you may go deaf.

Dodge durango.
The wierdest part about that Mighty Max i had, is it sat in a yard for 17 years, never moved, yet it didn't have a speck of rust or wear anywhere. The original owner was an incompetent idiot and didn't change the oil, so the engine seized up. When i got my hands on it, i found a free engine, and a free EFI computer, put it together, and it ran great. I had it riced out with some Honda Pilot rims and a loud ass fart can. I fucking loved it. Oh, and it was lemon yellow :v: Ugliest goddamn thing ever but i loved it.
When I was a kid, my parents didn't buy me shit. I bought a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird for $1400 at auction. It worked for 2 weeks then the whole engine block melted into a singularity. I then saved again and bought a 1999 GMC Jimmy SLC for $6,500. It turned out to have a huge oil leak, only 2 engine mounts and the differential went out in 6 months and caused the wheels to seize and blow up the rear tires and it flipped on its side.
I would get the civic. IF your parents are paying for it.... seriously, whats it matter, odds are they will pay for your gas too right? So...
