Dear Mr. Trump,

As my body is getting weaker, I am unsettled by the fact that I have never been able to directly thank you. Because of you and your efforts, my son Jack who is Mexican-American, has a chance at a better future and a solid education. You and the Miss USA pageant played a tremendous role in my life. It was the BIGGEST honor of my life to compete on your Miss USA stage in 2005 representing the state of Wisconsin. As a little girl that grew up homeless and in extreme poverty, it was my dream come true to stand on that very stage. Winning Miss Congeniality was beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined. I don’t know if I can even accurately describe to you how much it meant to me to even be there in light of the circumstances in which I grew up in. The bonds that were formed during the pageant, molded a best friendship with my sister-in-life, Chelsea Cooley Altman – who just happened to win Miss USA that year. About 3 years ago, Chelsea was in NYC and attended one of your many functions at Trump Tower, where you debuted FundAnything.com. This turned out to be a life changing event for my son and I. I am forever indebted to you. It’s been almost 7 years since my world was turned upside down while giving birth to Jack. Because of a lack of care during my pregnancy by my doctor I was stricken with an incurable disease that left me unable to physically care for my son. I fight every day with every fiber of my being to have simple, but lasting moments with him. Living in fear as a result of the horrific lack of care and negligence from my doctors and medical professionals, kept me silent, where I was too scared to share the cause of my illness with anyone.

A year and a half ago, when Chelsea found out about my disease, she immediately took it upon herself to start a scholarship fundraiser for Jack through your organization, FundAnything – so that neither he nor I would have to worry about college for him – especially since I won’t be here when he crosses that milestone in life. At the same time, since I am now uninsurable for life insurance, Chelsea was adamant I allow her to do this for Jack. Within days, the fund soared. Where by the end of the campaign, thousands of dollars were donated for the fund for my 6 year old son – a Mexican-American. I cannot tell you how incredible the outpouring of support, donations and thousands of letters from around the world have been. There came a day during the campaign, that I will never forget. I was VERY ill and out of the blue, a package showed up, hand-delivered from you. Even while traveling, you took the time to send such a wonderful message of hope and support. I was going through some very dark times and this was unbelievable that not just anyone – but Donald Trump himself – took the time to think of my son and me. I have looked up to you my entire life. The scholarship fund is more than what it entails. This ultimately gave me the gift of peace. I will not be here to walk Jack through that stage of his life. As a mother, knowing that his education is taken care of, is the most special gift anyone could ever give me. And because of your organizations – Miss USA and FundAnything.com – you have given me the greatest gifts of all – peace of mind, heart and soul. I have been writing letters to Jack so that he can read them when I am in heaven, explaining how you, your organization and the snowballing effect of support from people all around the world have forever changed our world. With this, I have explained to Jack that a great responsibility has been instilled in him to pay it forward just as you have done for us. Yours is a gift that will keep on giving.

I am forever grateful,
Melissa Ann Young-Miranda
Miss Wisconsin USA 2005 PS. You have my vote.

The article itself is old but this just happened at his WI rally.
Terrible what this mother and her kid are going through. I might not support Trump but if he took a bit of time to personally meet with them and give her a scholarship fund so her kid can go to college, then I can respect that.
Doesn't matter what your denominations or preferences are, my heart goes out to this mother and her child.

Trump did his best to sound optimistic even if Melissa was being realistic about her situation. Everyone gets so caught up in political discussion or Trump hype during the rallies and then out of nowhere we hear about what Trump has done for people in the past. The sincerity in her voice felt so out of place at a political event, it reminds you that everyone, dumb voters, politicians, even Trump, are people too.
I almost felt bad posting this since it comes off as Trump propoganda, but politics aside Trump has done a lot for people in the past and its easily forgotten amidst all the political trash that gets thrown around. Best of luck to her and her son.

What?
That can happen?!
I found this from two years ago
“We were over the moon,” she said. “During my pregnancy I became very ill. I couldn’t stand without passing out. Just lifting my head was too much. I begged my doctor to help me over and over. My husband would carry me into his office. I was begging him saying I’d sleep there on his floor til he helped me. I told him over and over again for months that I think I’m dying. His response was ‘ it’s your first pregnancy you look great.’ He failed to hear me or even run simple blood work. 3 weeks before my due date I passed out trying to get to the phone. My husband found me & called 911. At the hospital they induced my labor.”
Blood tests had shown her liver and kidneys had shut down. Because of the prolonged suffering and trauma Young went into complete autonomic failure. The autonomic nervous system is the part of the brain that controls heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, respiration, digestion and most vital organs.
“Mine shut off like a light switch and there is no way for doctors to manipulate that part of the brain to tell it how to work again. My heart is really struggling. After a number of unsuccessful heart procedures and no chance at getting a new heart because the message is coming from my brain. My heart is now in the condition of an 88 year old woman,” she said.

His politics are fucking terrible but he's done some nice stuff here and there
His politics are fucking terrible but he's done some nice stuff here and there
Along with a lot of pretty abhorrent stuff. He does have a public image to keep up after all.
But fuck, going through whatever hell that family has had to would be the worst, I honestly can say I'm thankful that Trump gave a scholarship to that kid. It won't bring his mother back when the worst happens, but it should help him secure some future for himself, hopefully he makes the best of it. Chances like that don't come often after all.
I'm sorry to have to be so cynical but just like his bid for the Presidency, Donald Trump "funds" projects through FundAnything as a branding exercise. I say funds in quotes because the people given money were pre-selected. It was not his website, much as his properties are not his properties: he only lends them his name, his brand.
The sadistic thing about this "charity" - and all of the same style conducted by rich narcissists like him - is the arbitrariness of it all. Someone else didn't get the money. It wasn't for him to decide. Just like a little tyrant, to play god with people's lives.
What?

I'm guessing it's complications from pregnancy and maybe childbirth that enables a disease to develop.
I think her kid is a Mexican-American

Jeez that sounds incredibly negligent, are they suing the doctor at all?
Jeez that sounds incredibly negligent, are they suing the doctor at all?
I'd say it's more the husband's fault than the doctor's. The Doctor said they couldn't do anything. It's the husband who failed.
in what way is this the husbands fault at all
I'd say it's more the husband's fault than the doctor's. The Doctor said they couldn't do anything. It's the husband who failed.
Is this sarcasm?

I think you misread, here's an edit to make it more clear.
I begged my doctor to help me over and over. My husband would carry me into [the doctor]'s office. I was begging [the doctor] saying I’d sleep there on his floor til [the doctor] helped me. I told [the doctor] over and over again for months that I think I’m dying. [The doctor]'s response was ‘ it’s your first pregnancy you look great.’ [The doctor] failed to hear me or even run simple blood work.
Gotta admit besides all the dumbass shit he does, he does hold some fairly decent viewpoints. But still, I'd rather vote for Nixon than Trump.
Someone else didn't get the money. It wasn't for him to decide. Just like a little tyrant, to play god with people's lives.
Why is it not for him to decide who gets his money in an act of charity
I think her kid is a Mexican-American
Hopefully the kid takes that scholarship and becomes a politician who in the future eases the wounds between America and Mexico.
