I got broken into while I was home and lucid, didn't notice shit

So when I got home earlier today (like 5 or 6 hours ago), everything was fine and dandy, so of course I go FP and chill. Like an hour ago I pass by the hall and the fucking door is pried open and there's no money in the wallet that I left in my jacket next to the hall (200czk/7€, pocket change), they also took the keys (I have a spare, but it's useless now). Nothing else is missing, checked absolutely everything. It seems they just went as far as the jacket and left.
Already told my landlord who called the police and will be getting a new lock and shit. I'm not extremely concerned, just puzzled as to why they didn't take the whole wallet or anything else. I think they might be up to something more but idk. Will have mom guarding the place over the weekend when I'm not home. Most of all I don't get how or why they did this so quietly and in broad daylight, while I'm home. It hasn't even been that noisy in here, don't have TV on, not listening to anything, didn't hear any loud sounds. They probably had some tools and experience or sumshit, and I coughed before they went too far, idk. It's possible they thought they were breaking into the block's storage basement, since the apartment kinda used to be that (really cozy now btw). It's a friday, maybe they thought I was at work? This is just so random, I don't know whether to expect them to return or what, what's the significance of taking the money and the keys but not the documents or anything else... I mean, obviously they know their shit, else I'd probably notice.

Can still lock the door with the chain, also have a shoe rack against the door (in case they somehow quietly do something with the chain, I don't see how they'd not knock the rack over and make a ruckus). The only other way in is the sole window in the living room where I spend most of my time, so if they decide to take my remaining 10€ I'm ready to defend it with my life.
Damn, dude. I can only imagine how violated you must feel. Even though they didn't take anything, just knowing that somebody was able to force their way into your house without you even noticing has to be a very uneasy feeling.
As to why they didn't take more? They probably weren't expecting you to be home, or thought they were breaking into a storage room like you said. They got in, saw it was a home, maybe heard you moving around, and just grabbed whatever was in reach and booked it.
Thanks, I'm mostly cool with everything, just really confused and paranoid.
I mean things could have gone much worse, and landlord plans to have a new lock installed today. Criminalbros will most likely not return and if they do, they'll just find a new lock. Everything ought to turn out a-ok :ok:
Do what I did and get a magnetic reed sensor ("pi door sensor" on Amazon), a cheap raspberry pi, and a webcam.
Whenever my door opens I get emailed a few pictures of the door. That way if it really did open I've got pictures of the person entering, and can call the police whether I'm home or not. If it's a false alarm (not happened to me yet) the pictures will prove that the door was closed and put me at ease.
You can set gmail on your phone to play a custom notification noise for emails from specific addresses, such as the one you'd make for the pi.
That's actually pretty smart and cheap, I'll see about installing something of the sort.
